Imho the trailhawk will be nothing like the J20, so if you remember the J20 fondly and are seeking to recapture that same feeling, you'll be disappointed. The renegade is a super electronics infused commuter car/crossover built more for comfort and mass market styling appeal than for performance. It's heavy with low power, can't haul anything, everything is controlled by wires, it's a rolling computer.
If you're in the market for that, then you may love it. But if you want to rekindle the J20 feeling, the only thing I'd suggest easily available today would be a build late model TJ without a lot of electronic do-dads. No abs, no stability control, box frame, solid axles, bulletproof 4.0L -6 engine, spare parts galore, and so on. Even the current JKs I think are too dependent on electronics and sensors to be durable, bulletproof and able to be worked on by yourself. I have a 2016 DoJ Renegade for commuting, a 2006 Commander Hemi for hauling and a 1997 TJ ON 35" scampers for playing. Each has its purpose.
