Scott

they already tricked me once with the diesel http://www.autoguide.com/auto-news/2...sively-us.html

I don't mean to sound skeptical but I'm going off the info Chrysler has provided in the Renegades press release, and nothing in there mentioned standard AWD... http://www.media.chrysler.com/newsre...id=15373&mid=1

So the 4wd won't be like the Patriot? Mines in FWD until it detects slippage then sends torque to the rear wheels automatically, or you lock it in 4wd with a switch. The way I'm reading it the Renegade is either in FWD or its in 4wd, no all wheel drive? They have not posted the explanation on Jeep.com under Capability/4wd systems yet. I'm curious as to its operation.

Jeepriot,

How you described it sounds exactly how Jeep has described it.

Thanks Scott,
I'm old school 4x4 where you have 2 shift levers, one for the transmission and one for the 2 speed transfer case, both with mechanical linkage. This AWD automatic, electronic push button, dial and drive stuff kinda makes you wonder whats going to happen when your knee deep in a bog of **** and you decide you should have it in 4wd!
I did own a commander that was not trail rated but was awd, it was the best snow, ice covered highway machine I've ever had, it just did its thing and did it well when the going got rough. Patriot is kind of the same but much lighter which can be a problem, kind of why I'm curious about the renegade since it is slightly smaller.
Any body seen a curb weight for the Renegade?

Jeepriot,

I haven't seen a curb weight of the Renegade but, the 2014 Fiat 500L's curb weight is 3,203. With the 500L, 500X and the Renegade sharing a platform, I assume they will be close in weight.

That would put it real close to the same weight as the Patriot. Are either of the Faits you noted awd/4wd if not that will add weight.

The 500X is either AWD or 4x4. Don't know much about it

the 500X is going to be identical to the Renegade in just about every way. Its not likely the FIAT gets the beefier Trailhawk system, or even a Jeep system at all. FIAT does have a semi competent AWD setup in the Panda 4x4 so its likely they go that route to give the jeep some exclusivity...

Bob

Jeep is sitting on the price release a little too long. The local dealer says they expect a Dec2014 release, but they have no prices.

Not too clever.

I'm trying to decide whether it's worth the wait, hard to do when there's no price info.
