I got my TH stuck in the mud on my first off-road outing and had to be pulled out by a buddy with a Land Rover. I didn't know I was suppose to connect the recovery strap to both tow hooks up front. There were no adverse effects on the Renegade being pulled out by one tow hook. The only thing that was damaged was my pride!

Lol @WarHawk

Yeah those actual tow hooks don't screw into an aluminum bumper either, there are 2x grade 8 bolts holding them into the steel chassis reinforcement. If that failed, you were probably dangling off a cliff by it.

There's actually more fasteners for the TH front tow hooks further rearward. The TH tow hooks have a long shaft that extends back to the "frame" near the engine. That's what it looks like to me, it is a little hard to see. Maybe someone who can traverse the FCA parts drawings could find an exploded view of the TH tow hook anchorage (Shadowshaggy gave us an exploded view of the non-TH).

They do go back a foot or so, but a 90 degree twist in (from what it appears) and then 2x bolts on either hook. So we'll more than the non-TH

Surely it wouldn't have been THAT difficult to put a proper tow hook receiver on non-trailhawk Renegades? I'm still waiting for JeepCares to tell me why the Mopar® Tow Hook 6510637AA is called a tow hook, or sold for the Renegade when you can't use it anyway. And I would like to know how to properly recover the vehicle.

Those are some very curious points, and thank you for the better pic.

So 2x bolts and 1 nut, makes more sense now.

But yes, you take out the grille inserts next to the foglights and install these there. You could always just get the TH inserts or a dremel and make the factory ones work fine.
