Unexpected MPG

After reading the numerous low mpg posts I’ve decided to post about my average fuel economy. So far the Renegade has been averaging a solid 25 mpg (calculated) compared to the onscreen average of 24.2. I’ve been logging all my fill ups on Fuelly so that way future perspective buyers can see what to expect. Low mpg was 21.3 with a high of 30. I have a 2.4, 4x4.

I've never seen below 28 mpg average. I usually get 30-29mpg driving a mixture of snowy back roads and some highway.

Wow, seriously ??

Heavy foot, mountains passes, what ?

All sorts of expedition equipment strapped on your roof, bumpers, fenders ? Tires that would scare Bigfoot ? (the truck, not the mythical creature) Off-road lights bolted on your roof, bumper, pillars ? 5 or 6 full Jerry cans in your cargo area ?

Seriously, that's a "why-is-this ?" type of mileage.

I'm in the same boat. Not a heavy-foot, I just have a very short commute to work everyday. Country roads, 35mph tops. Less than 5 miles.

I did go on one trip to the Outer Banks last year and was seeing 27 for the total trip, mostly highway.

I am super happy I have a diesel. Mileage is actually the main reason I bought the manual 2.0L Diesel. I even have the 4x4 and I sometimes wonder if the 2 wheel drive version would have gotten even better mileage.

I'm in Germany and drive every day to work about 40ish miles each way. Half of that on back roads and half on the Autobahn where I'm doing anything between stop-and-go to about 110ish mph where there's less traffic.

I think the worst mileage I ever got was low 30's, and lately where I'm more focused on how I drive, I'm getting upper-30's...and I'm definitely not baby-ing it.

I track all mileage in the Fuelio app and don't count on the on board computer... but to be fair it's usually really close if not sometimes spot on accurate.
