Coolant Temperature Spike. What gives?

So I'm living this nightmare. 2015 Renegade Trailhawk, 55k miles. Coolant temp suddenly went in the red at 250
F in stop and go traffic on a 90 degree day. CEL came on. Checked the code and it was p0117, low voltage to the Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor. Open the hood and I noticed the radiator fan was not running. It only kicked in when I tapped it, and after that it doesn't stay on more than 10 seconds. Let it cool off and drove home. CEL is now gone, but the problem still happening. No leaks, coolant full, before I go to the stealership and get raped, I want to see if anyone else has this issue and how they handled it.

I'm pretty good fixing issues on my Jeep in the 3 years I've had it. Second major problem, first being the transmission locked due to the computer needing a reset. That was done last summer.

Talk to me, fellow Rene owners.

Did you get the radiator cooling fan replaced yet? There is a recall, and lots and lots of problems with the original fan that uses bushings rather than bearings.

Mine hadn't died, but it was apparently sluggish as my operating temps in 90+ weather and stop and go traffic dropped like 15-20 degrees.

Ordered the cooling fan a couple of days ago. Should be here by Thursday. O heard from friends about the fan going and a possible recall. When it gets here, I'll swap out the original one. Hope that does it.

There is a recall on the radiator fan. Contact your Jeep Dealer, or Jeep Customer Service with your VIN, and get it replaced with an updated one, no charge.
