Jeep Compass vs Jeep Renegade: Convince me please!

So I am interested in a 4x4 manual transmission sub/compact SUV, and would like to use the factory trailer hitch for either for very light duty towing (a jet skin or motorcycle on rare occasion... 1500lbs max really).

We don't yet know for sure if the 2019 Renegade is getting the 1.3T, so will compare only to existing engine options to be fair.

1) Renegade: $25,590 (after factoring in $700 for factory tow package installed by private shop after purchase) MSRP for Latitude 4x4 with 7" infotainment. 160hp / 3,210lbs = ~20lbs/HP

2) Compass: $25,880 for Latitude 4x4 w/ 7" infotainment and tow package. 180hp / 3,327lbs = ~18.5lbs/HP

If they are almost identical in price similarly equipped, but the Compass is roomier and yet in theory quicker 0-60MPH, what are the not obvious spec-sheet warrior comparisons that would make the Renegade a better choice?

Personally, I really like the looks of either, with the Renegade being more funky, and the Compass being very classy, so that's a wash. Thoughts?

Just my 2 cents, having driven both often. My wife has a 2016 Renegade and my MIL has a 2018 Compass, both loaded Latitudes.

I like the funky styling of the Renegade better, but definitely prefer driving the Compass. It seems like a bit smoother and more refined ride, even with the same 2.4 Auto in each. The little bit extra space is nicer too.

For me, if I was getting one of the two to drive every day, itd be the Compass.

I'm currently using a loaner Compass while my Renegade is having the A/C fixed. I definitely prefer the Renegade.

Pros for the Compass:

The cabin seems to be quieter. (My Renegade has My Sky, so maybe that's part of the difference.)
It's a bit longer, so more storage in the back.

Pros for the Renegade:

Seems to handle way better. The Compass has a sort of floaty feel to it. I enjoy driving the Renegade. The Compass is pretty meh.
Interior layout. The Renegade seems to have more head room. In the Compass, I felt weirdly close to the rearview mirror. Also, even though the Compass is longer, it seemed like it might be more narrow as far as interior layout. Felt a little more cramped.
Exterior styling. This is obviously subjective, but I definitely prefer how the Renegade looks.
You're looking at a manual transmission, so this point isn't really relevant, but the Compass is way laggier than my Renegade. You push the pedal, and it reacts about two seconds later.

Lastly, I know some people have had issues with their Renegades. (As mentioned, mine is currently in the shop for the fourth time for A/C issues.) But the Compass has so many similar bits that I wonder if it would suffer many of the same issues. Might be worth looking into.

Best of luck with your decision.

Thanks all, to make matters worse, I forgot to consider the Fiat 500X, it is the same shared chassis among all three after all. But the Compass/Renegade are likely more equals for real 4WD duty.

You might want to consider that the Compass with a manual transmission and the 2.4L engine is factory-rated for towing. The Renegade with a manual transmission and 1.4L turbo engine is not. That would be a concern for me. You might be opening yourself to warranty claim disputes if something on a Renegade were to fail and the dealer/factory felt that it was related, in whole or in part, to using it as a tow vehicle against the factory recommendation. Note that I make these comments as they pertain to the U.S. and Canadian markets. Tow ratings and capacities differ in other markets.
On the economic front, the incentives and deals on a 2018 Renegade are significantly better than on a 2018 Compass.
