aluminum shield

Good Morning All,

I was driving our 2015 Jeep Renegade Latitude and went through a puddle on the highway. Now there is an aluminum pan hanging from the underside rear driver side. I can't find any information about this part. Whats the purpose for it? Repair it or rip it off? First time Jeep Owner.

Thanks

A photo would help but If I was to guess I would say heat shield.

Whell if it is a lattitude it's not a skid plate. It's silvery sluminum color and kind of a waffle crinkle and in the back near the rear wheels or on the drive shaft tunnel? Then it is heat shielding.

Here's the stuff I'm talking about in a random internet pic. The arrows aren't mine, but I'm talking about the silver waffle thing in the upper right.

I think ripping it off is the correct answer - because you don't know what it is.
