Questions Regarding Installing Remote Start

Long story short, When I purchased my renegade, the base model was within my budget. Now, I'm upgrading everything I can to get it as cozy as possible.

I was hoping for some insight on how to go about DIY installing an aftermarket remote start system. My renegade does not have push button start, as it seems models with push button start have ready made modules for them for remote start..

I haven't seen any posts within the forum about this for the Sports model. I really want to save on the labor and gain the experience to do it myself. But would truly appreciate some insight if I happen to be missing something.

Thanks, all!

Do you have a manual or automatic transmission? Also which engine.

That unit needs a push button start. That's why I sent the unit I did.

I must be cheap....seems like a lot of dough to just start your car 15 minutes earlier from inside your house.....

If it came with it, that's one thing. But to add it and risk messing with your canbus and who knows whatnot ? I know myself. If ANYTHING acted up, my first thought would be, "I wonder if it's the remote start I installed ?"...

We have seen cars at the shop in for no starts because of aftermarket remote starters. My preference, for a remote start, is the factory installed.

As far as starting 15 min early. If you don't have a garage, it's snowing and 10 below zero, a remote start can be a WONDERFUL thing!

Couldn't that be accomplished the way it's always been since before remote start ? Run outside, start the car, turn on the heat, run back inside, finish your coffee while looking out the window and watching the exhaust cloud from your tail pipe (to make sure it stays running) then go back outside ? That costs......nothing.

At least that's the way I used to do it when I had to deal with snow. I'm a former Long Islander now living in Texas. Do I miss the snow ? Nope. I miss the romanticism of snow; the white fluffy coating falling gently making everything peaceful and pretty, not the reality; the ugly gray mess 2 days later, snotcicles hanging off my car, my floormats frozen with previously melted snow now re-frozen because I forgot to bang my boots clean before getting in my car that morning.

I'm a geek and I think ANY technology is cool, but to me, remote start is in the "yeah, cool, but why ?" category. The majority of use I see is when owners start their vehicle....when they're 10 feet away from it.

After the aftermarket install has been completed, the software Must be used to recalibrate All the modules with the computer. If it is done correctly there will be no issues of any kind. Also during the software updates you can install all your personal preferences.
