Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S

I installed the Excelon DDX9905s in my 2016 Trailhawk today, opting to replace a 6.5 nav system. I installed the iDatalink MaestroRR integration system to retain my factory settings and options through the head unit. Everything came over. Backup camera works fine, although the lane lines no longer curve when I turn heading backwards. If there is a setting for that, I haven't found it. Contrary to the wiring diagrams, it was necessary to run a wire to the OBD-II port. I tried to use a cheap amazon USB dongle to convert in dash USB, however, the head unit flashed a message that the USB hub was invalid when I tried to use it, so I took that out and ran the extension cable to the glove box and another by the driver side kick plate. Taking the kick plate off made running the wires SUPER easy. I bought the pre-wire service through Crutchfield, so the iDatalink HRN-RR-CH3x Factory Integration Adapter harness was ready to rock. Here is what I installed:
  • iDatalink HRN-RR-CH3x Factory Integration Adapter
  • iDatalink Maestro ADS-MRR Interface Module
  • Metra 95-6532B Dash Kit Matte black
  • Antenna Adapter
  • Kenwood Excelon DDX9905S
  • iDatalink ACC-NAV1

The NAV1 adapter allowed me to use my own GPS antenna that came stock on the Renegade rather than run a new one for android auto/car play. Note: The rear of the 6.5 Nav UConnect system has 3 antenna cables. White, Tan, and dark purple. The White one is for the HD FM/AM signals. The Purple is for GPS, and the Tan one is for Sirius XM. In all, the install took about 45 minutes once I flashed the iDatalink Maestro RR to match my head unit and jeep. My Samsung Galaxy S9+ had to have android auto uninstalled and reinstalled for it to be recognized by the system. Once I did that, everything was right as rain. Hope this helps someone considering a similar project.

I would include pics, but this will not let me until I shed my noobness.

Curving backup lines

I found the setting that controls this. Its an OEM vehicle setting. My lines now curve.

*UPDATE*

I love the head unit but wasn't crazy about the dash trim that crutchfield supplied. They supply the Metra 95-6532b kit. That is the one with the shelf underneath pictured below. I have since installed the Scosche cr1300b trim plate. It fits much better and angles the HU up into the dash better for cable management. If you are goi g to do this, I recommend the Scosche trim.

Thanks for the info on the Scosche, I don't like the double Din fit with the Metra.

Also this USB Electop 2 Pack USB 2.0 A Male to USB B Mini 5 Pin Female Adapter Converter from Amazon does not work with a Kenwood head unit, I get the USB Hub not supported. Is there an adapter that works? Maybe the Datalink ACC-USB1 ?

How is the sound quality compared to stock now? Very much considering doing this swap as well. Anything to kill the terrible tuning on the factory amp, really!

The one I ordered from Amazon US looked just like this, and did not work. I am ok without it now that I have Android Auto Wireless. That, alone, was worth every single penny.
