where does the oil go?

i know this is a continuing subject. my vehicle 2017 trailhawk 2.4 burned 41/2 qts of oil in 3932 miles then STOPPED burning oil. now being paranoid about low oil i turn on my oven timer when i get home to check my oil TEN minutes after vehicle shut off last week checked oil (6800 miles) and was one quart low. replaced the quart. last night checked the oil and it was ONE quart HIGH. WHERE THE HE;LL DOES ONE QUART OF OIL HIDE IN A 2.4 FOUR CYLINDER VEHICLE. WHAT IS THE OIL PAN FOR IF NOT TO CATCH THE DRAIN OFF AT THE TIME THE ENGINE IS TURNED OFF AND GIVE ACCURATE OIL LEVELS

why doesn't jeep step in and address this problem--- oil consumption test is a joke, they change the oil TIE down the dip stick so that you cannot check the oil yourself and tell you all is good 500 miles later. you read in here where vehicles stall and they find no oil in the engine. NOT good, many people do not even know what a dip stick is, that is basically useless if you cannot get an accurate reading

The issue with oil consumption has been spoken of, and documented since 2014 when the first Renegades were delivered to customers. It is a fact that these engines drink an amount of oil. The oil is very thin in newer cars, and some engines tend to use oil because of that. My theory is that once one of these engines gets a quart or more low, the oil gets hotter and thinner, making the issue even more prominent. That is to say that that the lower the oil, the faster it goes away. I'm hesitant on saying that it's being burned because there would be an equal amount of catalytic converter complaints/replacements, and that's not happening. That being said, I don't know where the oil is going, since there are very few complaints of oil leaks.

For the people that do not even know what a dip stick is, this is a basic knowledge of driving a vehicle that should be carried out by the owner, or someone. Maybe I'm an exception, but I always have checked the oil more than regularly with a new car, just so I can have an idea if it will be an oil user. I adjust my oil checking intervals accordingly based on that.

still does not tell me where one quart of oil can sit in an engine besides the oil pan and filter and show up on the stick one week later
SOMEONE must have the correct answer, valve guides, rings, valves not seating, all of this has been tossed around.they do not hold oil they allow it to be burned when not properly sealing. where are the real jeep mechanics, i am sorry i have always been a ford man, this oil crap the only hang up to a nice "RIDE"

My dealership found the same problem with my car when I brought it in for some weird noises, I have a 2018 Trailhawk and noises started after 10k miles. My Renegade spent a whole month in the dealer trying to figure out what was wrong. On top of that they crashed my car.

6k miles later, jeep noises are increasing and oil consumption is still bad. Dealership doesn't want to take care of it.

So tell me how do we go from here?
All of camping trips and meet ups have been cancelled. This jeep has been no fun. ?

I’ve had this issue as well.
My ‘17 renegade th was consuming 1qt/1000 miles, basically leaving me with little or no oil at oil change intervals. The dealer had performed 4 oil consumption tests, each indicating the above mentioned consumption. After the 4th test, they sent paperwork to Fiat and my car was approved for a engine block replacement. I have had no issues since then.

all short block replacements do not replace the valve guides and seals. MY dealer told me the valves guides take a while to "break in" and that may have been my problem. you guys getting new short blocks better question the valves/valve guides. all they do is pull the heads, hopefully clean and put on the new block. bad guides will burn oil

I;d forgotten about that that was common on cars years ago but it kinda disapeared till it looks like Jeep reinvented it Mine has 25,000 on it now and has never burned a drop. Good little car, extremely sure footed, except for the mysterious orange screen i get occasionally. But you know Fiat is known world wide for these ah oh's in their cars and i knew that before i bought mine.

i am trying high mileage 0-20 Pennzoil supposed to recondition valve guides. testing cylinder compression all within specs. not piston rings and engine block is not a sponge, no leaks. must be burning oil. i have kind of given up, not a FORD, could work the engines with my eyes closed. just will carry a funnel and 21/2 gallons of oil
i must say the oil consumption has been reduced, either what ever was wrong seated itself or the high mileage oil has properly lubricated the valve guides to properly seat around the valve shaft

Why don't you try a high quality synthetic oil? Mobil 1 cured a problem in a lady friends pickup similiar to your issue. I use amsoil in most vehicles and have never had any oil burning even ij a 1975 Ford 2000 diesel tractor.
If you still have a problem you have engine issues or clogged crankcase breather........Wow! Just hit me i bought a Porsche many years ago from a dealer for about half its value because it used lots of oil. I figured i would have to go through the engine but discovered thatthe wrong alternator stand had been installed which blocked the crankcase breaker port so pressure would build up forcing oil past seals. Replaced the stand and the car ran like new without any oil consumption. Sold the car for a nice profit<smile>

It may have already been mentioned here. But the engine is called MultiAir 2... it only has a single overhead cam which operates the exhaust side valves (I think) — the intake valves are independently operated per cylinder via solenoids. Though still connected to the opposing cam as a trigger...

Which are powered by oil pressure.... pretty cool. This is a fiat design ontop of the old Chrysler 2.4l

As my dad would have said - this **** shouldn’t work! But technology;-)

I just added 1 quart at 2400 miles. I do not know how much was in there to begin with so I will have to monitor from here. Never had anything like this, very frustrating to just sort of have to sit by and wait with a brand new car.

I only drive about 4000 miles a year so it will take me a long while to find out under standard mileage test procedures?

G'day form Australia,
It's most likely the oil is being burned. (the TigerShark is a 2 stroke)
Has anyone got a mechanic to check the exhaust emissions?
Better still, if it's still under warranty, take it over the pits.
Get a defective sticker.

FCA might THEN do something?
If not - Let the LOCAL PAPER know.
Being FIAT they'll probably just Fix It Again Temporarily!

The "burned" theory has been presented many times. But if it was burning oil there would be additional signs; smoke from the tail pipe, exhaust tip filthy, catalytic converters getting blown out, etc.. The oil just disappears.
