Hiya,

I'm chasing down a few little issues with our Renegade. Currently rough cold start to the point it might throw a code and misfire, then you'll restart it and it'll be fine.

One thing I'm reading about is the "Multiair Filter" and for those that don't know what that is I've attached a pic and linked a video that shows it being removed/cleaned and put back in.

Anyone done this on their 1.4 Multiair? I'm also going to replace the "air oil separator" AKA PCV unit as a precaution. It is NOT the same as the US models where you have a replaceable PCV valve, ours in the UK is different for some reason.

I don't think it's an easy job.

Eh, even if it was that specific proceedure. I'm certain I could do it - not too dissimilar effort wise to what I've had to do on my own car.

But, it's not actually that full thing. It's in the side of the engine, top left behind the timing belt cover. Hopefully anyway!

This bit that I've circled :)

Did changing this part out help with idle and running in general?
Honestly I haven't gotten around to even ordering the thing yet.

But when changing my spark plugs the other day the bottom of the threads in cylinders 2 & 3 had oil on. Which means more work.

Having to source the following now;
  • Spark plug tubes x4
  • Valve cover gasket
  • Spark plug tube seals.
  • Multiair microfilter
  • Pcv o ring thing
The tubes are incredibly expensive, only available from main dealer and £26 each! So including those and the other bits avove it's £200 of stuff and 2-4 hours work.

However... Absolutely no idea how to get the threaded plug tubes out and install the fresh ones. They call for 45nm of torque!

I had a little bit oil in on of my plugs. It was the far left one. I haven't fix it yet (winter is very cold). I am thinking that may have something to do with my decrease in fuel economy and some noise when doing highway speeds. As if the spark isn't consistent making the engine run in 3 cylinders or something.

Anything at all on the plug(s) will potentially impact economy/performance a little or a lot. Did you replace the plugs?

Strongly advise doing the valve cover gasket and new plugs again when you get the chance.

Also, I've ordered my bits and bobs and will be doing the job in the next week or two.

I found that when I replaced them last. The odd thing is that the fuel economy thing is inconsistent. The fuel economy may be down for a little bit then it pops back up and the subtle rumbling is gone. Go to a stop sign and work back through the gears, it may come back on...idk
