Dear All,

I hope you are well.

I am considering to buy a 1.6 E-TorQ Evo 110bhp FWD model. Is there anybody who has driven Renegade with above mentioned engine size and would be so kind to share his thoughts/experiences, please?

I understand this is the most basic engine that is being produced by JEEP (I believe this model is not being produced in US, only in Europe), therefore I can't expect "intergalactic power" from it, but because I had circa 105bhp in my old SUV car and it was sufficient for my needs I believe this engine shall be sufficient as well. Or have the engines changed and what once used to be satisfying is not anymore (similar to the computer technology, i.e. 400MB RAM will not be as fluent nowadays as it used to be in the year 2001)?

I will be driving most of the time in the town and might go on few trips/a year to the countryside.

Thank you very much indeed.

Kind regards.

I was thinking about this engine myself. I opted for the 1.4 multiair with 6 speed manual transmission. The 1.6 etorq has 120hp and the 1.4 multiair has 140hp. I had a Scenic 1.5 dCi which had a turbo and 110hp. There were times when the Scenic felt underpowered and seemed to struggle. I don't drive like granny and I don't drive like Lewis Hamilton, but the Scenicfelt like it needed a tad more oomph. This is why I went for the 1.4 multiair, it has the extra oomph. Also it has a 6 speed transmission and the 1.6 etorq has a 5 speed transmission. Also the fuel economy is better.

Picked my Longitude up yesterday, fuel consumption showing 24 mpg! Rubbish! Hope it gets better as the mileage increases and engine frees off. Power wise it's no rally car but very smooth and quiet so far. Breaking it in gently for now

Picked up mine on Friday and made more than 800 miles over the week end, 90% highway at around 80 mph as average. Same impressions you had: easy and smooth to drive, makes you feel safe and comfortable, but the fuel consumption ... 26,7 mpg!! On the Jeep website it say that average fuel consumption should be 36,2 mpg!! I really hope it will get better ...
@Davedegrape: how was yours under this point of view now that you are heading toward the first month?

One month in and still around 26mpg, engine has freed up a lot now and is nice and smooth and very quiet. It can also give quite a rapid burst of acceleration if needed. Only one minor niggle is the handbrake is reluctant to release if you've Parked on a slope. Going for a motorway run this weekend so will see if mpg improves. Prefer this 1-6 to the peakyy turbo. Quite good pulling power low down. Also has anyone noticed it has a moving off assist!!? First gear handbrake on foot off accelerator and as you lift the clutch engine increases aprox 600 revs and aids a smooth move away from standstill. Very handy on a trail I would imagine as you don't need to give loads of throttle moving away

I have a 1.6 e-torq sport. I think the engine is awful. It has too much torque in low revs so trying to pull away from standstill, especially if you have only just started the engine, means you get a burst of torque. This means you either get a judder through the wheels or you speed off at a ridiculous rate until the revs level out.

I've been driving 22 years and have never driven a car with such an awful engine. Steer clear.

I aim to change mine to a different engine as soon as they let me.

I also have The 1.6L i am used to The low end torque and The Nothing above 3000rpm.(used to it because of wranglers with stock gearing and 33s) i like The motor actually. Low gasmilage and low tax here in Sweden. But be aware overtaking must be planned in advance ;)

Steer clear

This car is one to stay well clear of, no power at all and shocking petrol consumption, we have been well miss sold this off the salesman who told us it was great on petrol and very quick, we even test drove a one and they sold us a different model, jeep and dealership have been absolutely useless in swapping the car incurring more costs to us, so my advice is just don't buy it!!!! Save yourself the hassle, there are definitely cheaper OTR vehicles with better performance and mileage in this category saving you time, money and aggravation all round.
