1. Is it just my Trailhawk or does anyone else get a heavy shift into 3rd(i believe) the first couple of times after starting it up and then it is fine the rest of the journey?

2. Also does any one else struggle to accelerate between 60 - 70mph but have the car take off between 70 - 80 (not that I'm doing 80 on the highway honest)

Just interested to know if it is just me

Mine seems to have smooth shifting in all gears. I have a little over 3,000 miles.

I have been having issues with both. I noticed the acceleration was very slow at higher speeds on my trip from Michigan to Ohio while on the turnpike. Its hard especially when going up hill to try and get there fast. I've had a software update on my Jeep...about a month ago and that seemed to help a tad if that makes any sense. About the hard shifts though..I feel like that started for me about a week ago. I'm at 3400 miles. The shift at about 25 mph and 33-34 are really jerky....scary jerky and doesn't feel right. I'm going in for an oil change soon so I'll have the dealership take a look. I've already taken my jeep in twice for unscheduled maintenance. I"d like to not have to worry about these issues anymore!

My '15 TH is doing the same thing. This is not the only post here about this issue. My dealer tried to tell me it was normal, I believe it to be a software issue based on some other posts.

If you have a few minutes go to "All about the ZF9HP -9 speed automatic transmission on " YouTube". There is an in depth discussion and physical demonstration of the operation of this tranny. It explain why we may get any number of actions, feelings, confusion about it.

Just an update on my status on this.

Back when I said no it doesn't, my TH didn't do this. However, towards the end of winter it started doing the extremely harsh 2-3 shift after sitting for an extended period of time. I had a TCM flash in october 2015 after which, under a number of circumstances, shifting got sloppy. Like student driver learning stick, but past the stalling it phase sloppy.

Anyway, apparently a software update was dropped towards the end of january that my dealer didn't catch when I had my first oil change in february 2016, but I did get at my 10,000 mile service after telling them the shifting was really sloppy under certain circumstances. It smoothed out that clunk 2-3 shift in the mornings a HUGE amount. The shifting overall is back to being nice and tight like when I first got it before the improbable value error forced a TCM update, AND I didn't lose any of the MPG increases to get the nicer shifting back in fact it might be a ttouch better MPG than the last firmware.

stay away?

was considering a 2017 renegade with the bigger engine.but after test driving one and reading about these problems i don't feel the transmission situation has been corrected..seems likes it hints for the right gear way too often..very unfortunate because i had a good deal on an altitude pckg 28,210 msrp for 20,440..I'd buy it in a minute if it didn't have this tranny controversy

it is still a crap shoot.
My first Jeep with it was a lemon.
the second still has issues but is liveable
