I used carvana to get a 2016 Jeep Renegade with the my sky sunroof. It never opened from day one which was only 8 days ago. I made an appointment at a Jeep dealership with them knowing it probably needed to be completely replaced! They were 2 hours late starting on it because of taking a child for the first day of school. I have no issues with that (I am a teacher with kids of my own), but don't make an appointment if you know in advance you won't be able to make it. I had to sit and wait with my child for over 7 hours for a diagnostics test, completely under the impression they intend to fix it if they aren't already working on it! I had told them in advance that yesterday was the 7th day and I had to have it fixed or I was sending my Jeep back. The repair rep told me Silver Rock said I need to take it to a body shop and the whole roof needed to be replaced and shuffles us out of the door. (He already told me on the phone when I made the appointment it probably would need to be replaced and it would take awhile, and now he doesn't want to do it??). I call Silver Rock and contacted 4 body shops, and I'm told by every single one of them that they do not work on sunroofs. I AM ALSO TOLD IT WASN'T SILVER ROCK, BUT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AT THE DEALERSHIP WHO WANTED ME TO TAKE IT TO A REPAIR SHOP! I tried to contact the guy that I've been dealing with from the dealership to discuss options- and no return call! I have reached out to three other Jeep dealerships. They say it's a pain in the butt and they really don't want to sign up for the job. Now I'm one day over my return date with Carvana. Does anyone have any advice on what I can do because I bought this car for this roof. I do love the car itself, but I don't understand how I've had a car for 8 days, the roof never worked, and it's under warranty, yet it's being refused to be fixed at all dealerships and Carvana won't take it back. I feel stuck! Please help!

Welcome... :(

Wow. I'm not sure what anyone can tell you at this point. Hindsight can really be cruel.

First, if it was me and the MySky sunroof was so important to me, I'm not sure I would have bought a Renegade with it inoperable.

Second, I had to do some research, and I see that Silver Rock is Carvana's warranty provider. Did you buy the CarvanaCare Plus extended warranty, or just have the basic warranty? Because while the CarvanaCare Plus warranty looks like it would have covered the sunroof, the basic warranty only covers the drive train. So if you only have the basic, then Silver Rock wouldn't have any responsibility.

Third, why did you take it to a Jeep dealer? Their warranty is long expired, and any repairs they did would have to be paid for out-of-pocket -- or by Silver Rock if under CarvanaCare Plus. Or were you willing to pay for it yourself?

Finally, if it was me and I knew that the seven-day return period was running out, I certainly wouldn't have let the dealer keep the Renegade for that long.

Only thing you can hope for now is that Carvana will want to keep you as a future customer, and will allow you to return the Renegade past the seven-day period. You'd have to show that it had been at the dealer for that long.

If you do a search here under "MySky," you'll see that it's been extremely problematic. Apparently the plastic guides are very fragile, and the system is very susceptible to crud. I don't know of anyone that's been able to get it fixed commercially for a reasonable cost; some have tried to take it apart and replace the guides.

Good luck!

It is SO annoying that this iconic feature on the Renegade is so poorly thought out.
Also it's not a common option so the dealers, even if they are any good, have no experience.

Two options:
  1. Buy the broken clips from AliExpress and get someone or a friendly mechanic or sunroof place to fix it.
  2. Pay the dealer $2000.

Either way, I would order an extra set of clips anyway. I left my spare pair in the wheel well marked "MySky Sunroof Spare parts" when I traded it in.

Thank you for investing the time in something that even those getting paid for vehicle didn't do. I couldn't get in to see a JEEP service center, who is the only person in my area that will work on the sunroof. It was all covered by Silver Rock and I still have 91 days :) to get it repaired. Since they had a diagnostic that the jeep wasn't working upon delivery and at the JEEP dealership, it is covered under the warranty. The problem I am having is finding a dealership-or any car service center-that is willing to fix the roof because it is "a pain in the butt!" I wasn't told this until the 8th day because the guy at the JEEP dealership told me on the 7th day it wasn't a problem. I must sat that Silver Rock and Carvana (even though the won't take the car back) are not necessarily the issue. It is finding someone to fix it!! My Sky and Silver Rock cover Jeep dealerships so that was my best bet and it was approved-the dealership said they were fixing it so I waited 7 hours to be told to take it to a body shop-not because of Silver Rock or Carvana, but because the dealership refused to do it even though they knew the circumstances upfront. Silver Rock is like find someone and we will cover it and I didn't but it knowing no one would fix it-that came at the end of the 7th day :(
I really do appreciate everyone's advice and insight because I was afraid I would receive the lashings I have seen others get! lol I just want to get my roof fixed and I have basically 3 months to do it so if you know of any Jeep dealership that is willing-please let me know! That is all I need! It is under warranty!!
Thank you guys (and ladies) for all your advice-this is so time-consuming and it shouldn't be this difficult to get a roof under warranty and fully-covered fixed...but it is!!
And just for others-Silver Rock covers any work done at the Jeep dealership if it is within 100 days and not cosmetic, bur mechanical! I am thinking about taking a road trip so maybe just maybe I can find somewhere that is educated on these roofs! I take responsibility for getting a car with a roof with negative ratings-I just never thought NO ONE would fix it when it is covered by insurance!!
Thanks again!!

OK, glad to hear that. So you must have paid for the CarvanaCare Plus Comprehensive Coverage? Because that's what covers "Sunroof Motor, Sunroof Switch, Sunroof Cables, Sunroof Guides." So basically everything connected with a sunroof.

I can't find how long that warranty is good for -- so you've got 100-day coverage? That's great.

As far as I can see, the Essential basic coverage only covers the drive train (engine and other parts that provide power down to the road) -- which a sunroof isn't part of.

Yeah, the way I read it, you have to find a Carvana/SilverRock Preferred Repair Facility. Then that shop contacts SilverRock to start the claim.

So what's the plan now? Can/will SilverRock help you find a repair facility? I'd say they certainly should...

Sorry you joined the masses with this problem. If you want a sunroof, and you can return it, DO IT! If not forget you have a sunroof. I have.
