I have a 2017 w the same problem. To be more exact , at around 25mph when it shifts firm 2nd to 3rd gear, sometimes is jerks/kicks back violently.how often, well I think too often and quite frankly I’m not happy about it, the problem is I tried to explain it to the service adviser at my local dealer many times and I can’t replicate it when I’m there. It only does it whenever it wants, I couldn’t detect a pattern.
I saw an older post about this, but kinda lost track of it and then couldn’t find it any longer.
A good example of when the car would do this kick back/transmission jerking is for example you stop at a stop sign, then accelerate straight and realise there’s another stop sign coming up so about 25 miles an hour you ease off the gas pedal because you need to stop again, I think that’s when the Jeep does it. I really don’t know how to recreate a situation for this to happen but it’s very annoying
Hi Adicxxl,
We understand that this concern is intermittent which makes it hard for the dealer to properly diagnose. If you plan to return to your dealer for further inspection, you may also send us a private message and we'll gladly assist with that process.

Yes, I just posted on another thread, but my new-to-me 2016 Renegade Trailhawk does the same thing. First and worst for me is the shift around 14-17mph but also around 25, 35, 45 so with each shift. It's making me regret my purchase and worry it's only going to get worse.
Hello BumblebeeJeep,

Please keep us updated on this concern. If you decide to schedule an appointment with your dealer, we can provide an additional layer of assistance while in service.

Has you transmission issue been resolved? I have the same jerk at 25-30 miles and hour, I think that’s the 3-4 shift point. The first dealer said it was low oil causing the issue (never had a new car use so much oil before) doesn’t show any codes. I’m scheduled to have it looked at again on the 14th.
Same problem here. 2017 Latitude 4x4. 2nd to 3rd it jams the shift whenever it wants and sometimes even makes it to 6k rpm before shifting. It's SO dumb. I HATE this thing's tranny.
Hi John and Carlos,

Recently purchased a 2017 Jeep Renegade 4x4 and I'm experiencing the same issue. Drives fine a lot of the time but randomly around 25 when changing gears it shifts hard and jerks the vehicle. I have an appointment with at my dealership on Saturday of next week. Hopefully the information from this forum will help them resolve it as I do not feel it is a safe vehicle for my daughter.

Yes, I have a 2017 Jeep Renegade Limited doing their same thing. Just had the transmission fluid changed at 60k miles. Thought that would solve the problem but it did not. Dreading taking it to the dealer and finding out it’s a serious and expensive fix ?

I’m having the same problem. My 2016 Renegade didn’t do this, but my newer 2017 sure does. First time it did this, I thought id been bumped from behind. Does it around 25 mph.

I have a 2017 renegade limited too and have had the same issue for a little over a year now!!! I have tried googling this issue multiple times and have found no answers. So glad I finally found this thread and am not going crazy. I got really screwed over with my previous car having issues after I had 1 bad oil change experience. After that I told myself I would only take my car to the dealer because it places a lot more accountability in them if something goes wrong with my vehicle. I was so happy to get a brand new car when I got my 2017 renegade, but I was disappointed after a while and sometimes even regret choosing this vehicle. I have always received regular maintence in my vehicle and every time I would tell them about something weird that was happening or some issue they were never able to figure it out or would basically say it’s just not an issue whatever and then a few months later I received a recall notice. I have been so lucky to be hit with issues and probably every recall on this vehicle. Anyways, the jerky kick back feeling is the worst thing I have Experienced thus far. It is so hard to replicate and it is random as ever. I could be driving no different from how I was 10 minutes ago and then it just kicks back at you. The first few times this happened it startled me and within the next few days I was at the dealership trying to explain it and felt ridiculous. The first time I was still good for an oil change but the person at the dealership said let’s just change my Oil to rule that out and come back if it happens again. Okay well a good length of time goes by and it randomly happens again. So I go back in and the reset a bunch of stuff and said I’m good to go. Happens again, head back to a different dealership and they try to blame it on the recall I have on my car right now but they can’t do anything about it because there’s no solution to the issue at this point in time.........months go by and I finally am able to get the recall service needed. The second recall I had on my vehicle they tried to blame it on that again and every time I just go with it and hope it stops for good. Twice now, I have been told that it’s because I needed to get an oil change 🙄 both times I was appalled by their statements because I have only had my vehicle service by their dealerships and they can see that my vehicle is serviced before the oil change is needed so I wasn’t willing to accept that answer and I pretty much was left with well wait for there to be a recall because we can’t know what’s wrong with it based off of that. For the longest time anyone that drove in my vehicle would be shocked if it happened with them in the car but now it’s more regular that they just say whatever about it like I do. It is incredibly frustrating always taking my vehicle back to the dealership with what they think is an “imaginary problem” but I am so glad to know I’m not losing my mind and there actually is something wrong with this car. It makes me sad because this was my first brand new car and my first Jeep and I had decently high expectations that just were not met, even when I tried talking myself into Well it’s not that bad
We're sorry to hear about your experience with your Jeep Renegade. If you need any assistance during your next service visit, please send our team a private message.

My 2015 was doing the same between 1st and 2nd gear. Issue was random but took it in to dealer. It took three days to diagnose and get back to me but following is what they found:

"Scanned for DTC's none present, looked for available software updates and TSB's has TSB 21-003-18 lists his concern as fixable with software, PCM and TCM are both out of date, need to be done at same time 18-19-06-UE 0.2 hr 18-19-05GX 0.2 hr flash programmed PCM and TCM to latest software level per TSB 21-003-18"

This was covered under warranty for which I'm grateful. It does make me wonder though, has anyone had software updates that were not covered under some sort of warranty? I suspect most owners on this forum still have warranty coverage but as these run out what kind of charges can we expect to see in the future should a "fix" require a software update. Mine has 47K on it now and if it needed a software fix with these miles, I'm sure it may again.

As for how it drives now, it does "feel" different . Hard to explain but shifts seem more immediate. Since my problem was so random, I don't know if this fixed it or not; only time will tell. I did notice that on the ride home I take a highway with a 65mph limit. Where my Renegade would usually get to 9th gear, yesterday it never made it out of 8th. There may have been a head wind so will monitor but am certain the shift points have been changed or TCM/PCM is re-learning.

Adicxxl states it perfectly! My 2017 Jeep Renegade does the exact same thing. Can't make it happen at the dealership and a software update did nothing to help the problem. I can't believe a software update was even sent out. It's really annoying and disappointing! We're actually talking about getting rid if it unless a fix comes along.
Hi there, we are sorry to hear this! If you would like our additional support while working with your dealer to resolve this, please do not hesitate to reach out to us privately.

Recently my 2017 renegade which has 44,000 miles on it, is burning oil at a rapid rate. I am also having this jerking problem (automatic transmission) around 3rd gear and up. I got a text message today about recall W84 which says it's for a powertrain issue and a software update will fix it. On another forum, some people are thinking this is an admission of the oil burn issue. I'm not connecting the two. Calling my dealership this morning, but I'm definitely not happy. I've loved my jeep up until the last month. Don't need to be adding oil all the time, this is ridiculous.
W84 was created to address oil consumption concerns. It is mentioned in the owner letter.

Do you mean the Jeep Specialist as in the local Dealership or "Jasmine" in the above post @ JeepCares?

The first is a personal phonecall from you to them. The second is to merely await a reply as Jeepcares tend to monitor the forum for their name. If it's the second option then you have did the hard work already by posting a comment. (y)
Thanks for tagging us here, @puddlesplasher.

First, we would like to apologize for our lack of involvement within the past months. This was due to technical difficulties and we are deeply sorry for this inconvenience. If anyone is still in need of assistance with a previously shared vehicle symptom, do not hesitate to reach out in private message and we will be more than willing to offer our additional support moving forward.

I’m having the same exact problem except my Jeep dealership was unable to diagnose anything, kept it for five days, and charged me $190 even though it’s under warranty. Hopefully everyone else isn’t having the same situation because right now I’m really regretting purchasing the Jeep.
So sorry to hear that, D.Santillo. If you plan to return to your dealership for additional diagnosis or try for a second opinion elsewhere, we are here to help. Send us a private message when you're able to get your Jeep back in and we can support you.

I'm having the jerking issues around 20 - 30 mph. It's very concerning. I just bought out my lease and have around 63k miles on it. I love the car but cannot afford to be dumping money into something. What is my best course of action? Thank you so much in advance for your help! I have a 2017 deserthawk renegade. I can relate to almost every reply on this thread. I hope there is a fix that won't cost a ton!

So updating program in vehicle should help? Read something regarding this or do I say something again to same dealer several times and the Lemon Law rules kick in again??

Just bought my wife a 2017 latitude with 78k miles .. 2 days later we are getting the same bump / jerk around 30mph it feels like someone tapped us from behind. I hope I didn’t throw away 13k. I’m regretting buying an American car, never again.

wow it seems we all have the same issue with the jerking at random times, i allready did that recall on the codes too! i’m still paying my jeep off and i’m pretty pissed about it doing this! These jeep’s are lemons and with soo many people complaining i think we are entitled to some sort of money back or the fix to be done! I heard there is a lemon law for 2017 and up with transmission issues!

The same issue is occurring with my 2017 Renegade Latitude. I was really happy when I purchased it. The initial issue arose some time ago. It appeared to be stalling by jumping. It was OK when I took it in. It has resurfaced in the last several weeks and is now worse than previously. jumping, lunging, and making a stalling motion. For four days, I can't even persuade them to glance at it. What is happening is unclear to me.
