4WD Impressions

I went for a drive with a salesman the other day and was really impressed by the way the 4WD functions. In other vehicles you can't run in 4WD on dry pavement without the wheels binding up. On the Renegade, the salesman had me put it in 4WD then drive the tightest circles I could in a parking lot. No binding - indeed, it didn't feel any different in 4WD than it did in FWD. Impressive!

IT's an AWD system with two open diffs at each end and a computer controlled multi-plate wet clutch pack for the center diff. You can drive in circles with it all day. If it is in auto, it'll be FWD essentially. IF 4wd is on, it'll drive all four, but there's plenty for slip as nothing is locked really. But much like a subaru or any number of awd vehicles won't drag wheels neither will the renegade.

My 97 eclipse was awd. It wouldn't drag wheels unless you welded up the center diff, which some people who seriously drag raced them did.
