5 Day old Jeep renegade already having lock issues

Hey Everyone,

Just registered on the forums. Had a 06 Dodge magnum sxt for 8 years and it died last week, checked out and loved the Jeep renegade. Leased the latitude 4x4 earlier this week.

5 days later, remote locking doesn't work, and internal lock controls are non-responsive. remote locking and unlocking button flashes the lights on the jeep, so i know a signal is going out, but locks don't move at all. Trying to use the in cabin buttons also does absolutely nothing. Called dealer and they said it might still be in ship mode. Based on the research I found on on these forums, the lock issue has nothing to do with ship mode, but ill take it back this friday and see if they can resolve it. if they can't, or don't install new firmware, ill go the battery disconnect route I guess.

Found this http://www.jeeprenegadeforum.com/forum/434-jeep-renegade-problems-solutions/12970-lock-failure.html

Also tried to clear the ship mode with lights on off position, turn signal on right turn, and holding the high beams for 10+ seconds. does nothing.

Second issue I'm hoping you guys have insight on is, in or around 3rd gear, the jeep "transmission" ? starts making a weird noise, like vwooooooooo. Sound like my motorcycle when I let off the throttle, except I'm still on the gas pedal. the only way I can describe the sound is a weird zipper like noise thats very distinct from normal engine noise. Almost like I'm driving over the grooves not eh side of the road to let you know your about to crash. Is this normal ? Do you guys get the same noise ?

Last thing I noticed now is that I can't turn off recirculate on the climate controls. I've hit the button, held the button down, caressed the button, and **** near licked it. anyone know how to turn it off. ?

Thanks Guys ! Looking forward to my Jeep getting all these things resolved in the near future and sticking around these forums for much longer.

If AC is in Max position, recirculate stays on. I have to turn mine one click towards heat to shut it off.

Yes! You are the first person I've seen on the forum that mentioned this. I have a Trailhawk.
It's not related to a transmission gear. If I shift into manual mode (without changing gears) the noise goes away. If I shift back to automatic, within about 5 seconds, the noise will return. It's drowned out by other road noise above about 40 mph. It is 100% repeatable. Just drive at a steady throttle input at about 30 mph for less than 10 seconds and the noise will appear. If I shift to - or keep it in - manual mode the noise will not appear or go away. It's not a really bad noise and I'm not seeing that it's causing any problem, so I'm not heading straight to the dealer. Anyone else?
I only had to do the battery disconnect once. Disconnected only the negative for 30 seconds and was all set. I believe if you hit the unlock on the fob fast more than a few times it confuses the system. Believe there is an update for correcting that but not sure.

As for transmission, haven't had anything similar so I'd have the dealer check it out.

Thanks @astrobdean.

@rsanges, Don't know if anyone else is experiencing this. hopefully its normal ? oh well. she's a lease, hope she stays alive for the next 2 years and 11 months.

can you feel it in the floorboards ??? or the pedal cause me and my gf have that sound and can feel it. we have the same diff colors

Yes. I did a little more testing and it also goes away when switched to 4WD Lock. It will return a few seconds after switching back out of 4WD. It is like a switch and the on/off timing seems 100% consistent. If I took it to a dealer, I have no doubt I would be able to reproduce it at will.

There was another thread on the forum where the OP said it was know by Jeep and they are working on a fix.

yea, i can feel it, i mean the whole jeep rides different with it on, it doesn't feel wrong. but definitely feels like its doing something i'm not sure is right

Is it a problem or nothing serious ?

I wonder if its just the regular sound of the automatic awd engaging from 2x4
I have not noticed any unusual transmission or engine noises with my car. Yet.

So went to bring my Jeep to dealership today to deal with the locks not working, and the **** thing is dead !!!!!!! apparently the battery died in the 4 days that I been away on business. called chrysler roadside assistance and they were nice enough to let me know i was "covered". Your **** right im covered ! the **** thing is less than 1 week since purchase !. apparently this happens all the time and the jeep needs to be started every 2-3 days and driven around or the battery dies. WTF. anyone else have this ?

Mine has sat for a week unused, on several occasions, without draining the battery.

Thanks for the info bro. Yea i dont see why it would drain the battery dry just for sitting there. I do remember that there was a thread about the battery drain as a result of the door lock problem.

*Update* just got back from the dealer. they did a quick inspection and "every single module" had a firmware update. they are keeping the Jeep today and tomorrow for the udpates to install. the biggest issue they found was that the udpates froze the transmission. might be related to the weird sounds. Will keep you guys posted on how she drives after all the module updates. if anyone else is having issues, I would recommend checking for software updates at this point.

Mine too. I was away for 9 days and took my pickup truck. The Jeep started on the first crank, no problem.

Sorry you're having all these issues. I sure hope the dealer gets it fixed and you can actually enjoy it.

thanks bro. Yea i've been watching renegade youtubes all day pretending i have mine today. hahaha
My Latitude is doing the same rumbling noise when it decelerates on it's own or just letting off the gas. I can make it stop when I put it into the "manual" mode. It started doing this a week after buying it (Aug 1st). Been to the dealer 3 times and they don't know what it is. They flashed the computer etc. but it's still doing it. Everything else is working wonderfully but that deceleration is definitely strange.
has anyone actually got a solution for this from jeep or dealership? have a 16 TH with the same issue and have been given excuses by dealership that its because of the high gearing but I dont accept that since much of my mph to/from work is in a 30 mph zone and i sure in the **** not going to drive under/over to not get this dam grinding/vibration every day
as i mentioned in previous posts; my renegade goes back in this wed to once again deal with the grring/vibrating sounds; this is what the service dept stated on the 1st attempt weeks ago.

customer: driving between 30 to 34 mph customer heres grinding and vibration through gas pedal.

dealer: couldnt duplicate abnormal vibration at this time. only think noticed is when cruising at this speed vehicle is usually in higher gear which lugs the engine and causes different driveline tones.
Hopefully there is an update on this, I have been having that same noise. I have the 1.4 with the manual trans, and it sounds like I am engine breaking even when I have my foot on the gas. Typically it is in 4th gear. It doesn't seem the be dragging the car, and hasn't seemed to be causing issues, so I am wondering if it is just a noise from the rear diff being connected. Please let me know if you hear anything about it!
Seems like I have this too in my new 2016 TH, 300 miles, build date may 2016.

Wife noticed it first (it's her daily driver). Seems occur only when decelerating. Have not tried turning off traction-control or engaging 4wd. Will wait to gather more info before taking it back to the dealer.
