i think my 2016 we will have 10 speed automatics that shift never ending. its funny because the industry is moving towards the trend of having ALOT of gears. or just having one continuous one (cvt)

I was reading an article that talked about gearing in autos. The research into adding more gears above 8 or 9 showed no sufficient gains in fuel savings. It is that point when the laws of diminishing returns start to impact gearing.

I'll have to try to find that article again.

what about from 5 or 6 speed to 8 or 9? does that have any improvements in fuel efficiency?

it would be nice to have a tall gear at the end so traveling on the freeway keeps the revs low. sometimes i find cars are at a very high rpm when going over 60mph

Would anyone get this over a manual transmission? Or would you not care about the lack of fun from not having a manual?
The problem is the Trailhawk and Limited don't get manual options. I drove a stick for years and they are fun on open roads, not so many with stop and go traffic. As I have gotten older, I prefer an auto on a daily driver.

certain cars i prefer manual over auto, sports cars, small engine cars, and 4x4's
renegade being small engine 4x4, would prefer manual over auto anytime,
current car only came in auto for upper end 4x4(FDII), guessing renegade will be similar, wont have a choice with top end 4x4 package like trailhawk
