I have a 2015 fwd Renegade, and have had ongoing transmission problems. I finally found a dealership that was willing to help me look into the problems. I dropped it off to them, so they could let the car sit for a bit, and they were able to feel the jerking after going from reverse to drive, like the jeep couldn't shift fully into 1st gear for a moment. They did several updates and gave me the car back. It was actually a lot worse once I got it back, would jerk in the first 4 gears, instead of just one, and my gas mileage went from 26-32 mpg down to 17-19 mpg! Took it back in and they said they had to "re-train the transmission manually. I just picked it back up yesterday evening and on my drive to work today, I noticed my RPMs jumping between 2 1/2 to 1 1/2 and then back to 2 1/4, all while the jeep was in cruise control with no speed change, or hills, like it couldn't make up its mind what gear it wanted to be in. I can also really feel when it shifts and downshifts, something that never happened before the updates. I did get my gas mileage back thankfully. So I guess my question is, is this normal after the updates? Should I take it back again? My full warranty will be up in about 1,400 miles and I just want a normal shifting jeep!!

Hi Daniel,

I am taking my Renegade back to the dealership on Tuesday, December 26th. Should I send you a message? If yes, what information would you like me to send you? Thank you for your reply!

Actually Chrysler has agreed to replace my transmission, so it is being done next week. The dealership I've been working with has been great helping me. I'm guessing an message is not needed now? If you'd still like tho, I can send the info.

Mine has been in the shop since Dec 19th. Same issues. Many updates, they replaces the valve body and that didn't fix it. Last week they said they may have to replace the transmission completely. Still have not heard back from them yet. I am hoping the buy it back.

I'm supposed to get mine back either tomorrow or Tuesday. I'll let you know if the new transmission actually fixes all the issues. If not, I'll be getting rid of it as quickly as I can, that's for sure! No one could ever convince me to bug a vehicle with a 9 speed transmission in it again.

Good luck with yours, and just stay on them until they at least put a new transmission in for you!

Oh, I totally agree....and add to that, that a new transmission is no guarantee it will fix things, if the new transmission is as bad as the first one.

Sorry you have to go through this sh*t. That is a major problem with FCA dealership techs and their know how.

So I got my Renegade bsck on Wednesday, with the new transmission. I am not very happy.....my gas milage has gone down noticeably. Was getting 26 to 31, now highest so far 22. Transmission still jerks going from reverse to first, sometimrs shifts hard into other low gears, and downshifts hatd occasionally too. Plus now my jeep sounds like a dang freight train! The noise from the transmission is crazy. I'll be calling the dealership back again, but have no idea what I'll be able to get done. Very, very upset!!!

Wouldn't you think they'd test drive it?
I'm not any kind of expert on transmission shifting issues, but I've heard that broken/damaged engine mounts can cause automatic transmissions to shift poorly. I'm just thinking that if you have the proper software and a new transmission, maybe the problem is somewhere else.

Transmission and engine is bolted together as one piece assembly by the bell-housing and so, the engine mount has nothing to do with transmission shifting problem.

......and yes, you are not an expert on mechanical concepts, not your fault by any means, you might overheard this from the dealership technicians.

I had a 1990-something Ford Taurus company car that started shifting badly. Turned out it was a broken engine mount. Something about the engine torque not being transmitted correctly to (or not interpreted correctly by) the transmission. It was quickly diagnosed and repaired by replacing the engine mount. That's what I know about that subject.

I think I may be in the same boat now... I posted on this forum a couple years ago about my transmission oil cooler leaking all of the fluid out the FIRST DAY I received my 2015 TrailHawk. It was towed to a dealership and fixed... but the car was driven to my dealership in Ohio from a dealership in Illinois, so who knows how much damage was done. Someone at JeepCares agreed to put a Lifetime Warranty on the Drive-Train...

My transmission has acted a little funny ever since... but no dealership has been able to declare an issue.

Early last week, my car stalled twice while leaving work... my gas tank was a little low and the temps were a little cold, so I blamed it on the cold weather and possibly some bad gas that wasn't winterized properly? The problem seemed to go away with a fresh tank of gas...

Then on Friday evening, my transmission went completely nuts on my drive home... my RPMs dropped and I had no power... the "Service Transmission" warning popped up and the "Check Engine" light came on... I coasted for a bit and my car appeared to shift back into 7th gear... Luckily I was almost home and I limped home and shut my car off, where it sat all weekend. I had just enough time on Friday to schedule a service appointment for Wednesday... I am hoping to get it to the dealership sooner... I would imagine it should probably be towed.

The ONLY good news is that I am right at about 34,000 miles, so it is still under the full warranty... and I do have the Lifetime Drive-Train Warranty... but we all know how that works when it turns out to be a component that is not actually covered... no way do I feel comfortable at this point driving my car past the 36,000 mile cut-off without a more substantial guarantee. Especially since I am betting that a new transmission is probably required, and who knows what problems will crop up from the potential replacement... does the warranty on a new transmission start over?

The person that I previously communicated with at JeepCares no longer works in that department... so hopefully there is someone out there who has taken his place and can provide similar service?

At this point, I feel very embarrassed to have purchased this vehicle... I am usually a better shopper/researcher.
