Because of a blown driver side strut I decided to replace both (turns out the passenger side had no gas charge left. These were the originals). I installed the Bilstein B6's which are awesome. I still had a clunk in the front and suspected the sway bar link on the driver side as well. I ordered the Mevotech and sent them back (one of my other posts) and ordered the Moogs. While I waited for those to arrive I got to thinking about the strut mounts and that I hadn't inspected then carefully initially. My thought was the struts didn't last long so maybe the mounts aren't that great either so I started the search. According to my local dealer, the part I needed for my 2015 Latitude was 68442095AA even though the Mopar websites said I could use 68442066AA. The dealer wanted $192 each for the 2095; online $101. I asked the dealer about using the 2066's and was told I couldn't. I called another dealer and they said It looked like the 2066's would work. I took a chance and ordered them for about $67 each. In addition I ordered t
he spring isolators because I had not swapped those out either.
I received my parts late last week but didn't get to the swap till today. Very glad I did! The difference between the old bearing and the new one is the old set up is actually two pieces so you can pull the bearing away from the mount. The new one (68442066AA) has the bearing integrated into the mount which to me is a better design. The overall size is the same so the new mounts fit perfectly. I'm glad I made the effort to swap these out even though I had already gone through the trouble of replacing the struts once already (i have my own spring compressors) because the plate/cover that holds the bearings in had already separated (yet another part that should have lasted longer). I didn't think about posting till I finished so I don't have pics of the new bearing/mount but have attached pics of the old ones (top, bottom, two pieces, and bearing ring. I included a pic of the isolators as well; they were worn through where the springs ends). The new mounts were made in Italy but the isolators were made in China although they seemed more robust than the originals.
My lesson here; if you're going to tackle this job look at the whole assembly. I didn't initially then second guessed myself. I feel good the job is now complete (new struts, mounts, isolators and sway bar links) and the Jeep rides like new. I'll tackle the rears soon and will replace the sway bar links there as well (I'm pleased with the Moogs). The front plastic links were dry. Also important (at least for my application) the 68442066AA mounts can be used and they are cheaper than what the dealer will pull out of their system!
