Assisted Braking System:

After 7 years of driving my baby Jeep, I have found a little anomaly upon braking. Just under my foot pressure upon normal braking, I can feel an intermittent pulsing of the brakes until baby Jeep comes to a stop.

I expect this action if I were to slam on the brakes and the ABS kicks in but not upon any normal braking ie. traffic lights etc.

It was thought that the Discs may be worn and slightly warped hence causing high and low spots on the brake pads. Yet could it be Winter road debris trapped between the pads and discs?

Ideas, please.

Och then that's an easy fix, 2 discs and 2 sets of pads, fixed for a few £££s :p
If only it were that easy! Aren't these Jeeps four-wheel disc? How did you determine which two to replace or have turned? You could replace them and still have the problem. It used to be simple to isolate front from rear by using the parking brake to slowly activate the rear only. With these electric parking/emergency brakes it may not be that easy to determine which rotor(s) are giving you the pulsing sensation. I've not yet looked into how the parking brake function is achieved, but I do know that there are types that use brake shoes on the back side. Which still would not tell you if it was front or rear. Let us know how it turns out. May you have the luck of the... Scottish?

coming from a wee bit of a mechanic background you can sometimes tell where the rotors are warped by where the vibration is coming from if its in the back side of the seat most likely rear and if the steering wheel most likely front either way replace both rotors and pads and test drive.

Also, make sure you (or your mechanic) measures for rotor runout (with a dial indicator) after the new rotors are installed. I believe the spec should be within 2/1000’s of an inch (sorry…too lazy to figure out metric for you). Sometimes there can be rust build up on the hub that needs smoothing out and can also cause for brake pulsations.
