Hello all,

I've had my Renegade Trailhawk for about a month now and I'm really enjoying it. The one thing that bothers me is the Uconnect player.

I recently went on a business trip and had a rental car - a 2015 Toyota Camry. When I connected my phone via Bluetooth to this car and streamed music via Pandora, it would remember this setting automatically and whenever I started up the car, after a few seconds it would connect and start streaming music from my phone - WITHOUT starting up the radio.

However, I have been unable to figure out how to do this with my Renegade. Everytime I start up my Renegade, the radio turns on, and if I want to stream music from my phone via Bluetooth, I have to wait 30-60 seconds and then press the "media" button. If I simply turn the car on and leave it on the radio, it will never switch over automatically to stream music from my phone.

My question is this - is there a way to get it so that the startup is the media player (in this case, my phone via bluetooth) instead of the radio? I understand I can make it so that it does not turn the radio on at all for startup, but that's not a solution since I want it to stream from my phone (with Pandora app) on startup (obviously after giving it some time to connect with bluetooth).

Any help would be appreciated with this. I've looked around in the settings but I wasn't able to find any way to do this.

I have an iPhone 4 if that matters and I want it to stream music via the Pandora app. I've actually been unable to get it to recognize my phone if I try to connect it via USB, and frequently the Bluetooth will cut out or fail to connect.

According to this Uconnect site for the Renegade, you should be able to with the iPhone or any compatible device.

Being curious, I went into the 2015 Jeep Renegade Uconnect 6.5A/6.5AM Owner's Manual and on pg 107, it shows you how.
If you don't have the manual handy, you can download a copy of it here.

Hope it helps.

Thanks for the reply. It looks like because I have 5.0/RA2 instead of the 6.5/RA4 I won't be able to do it since it doesn't have all those features. Oh well.

Mine connects automatically on the ra2.... Most of the time anyway. It's just slow. You do have to have the music app launched already though. Occasionally, something gets confused and I have to either restart the music app or redo the Bluetooth connection.

iPhone 6 though.

The 5.0 or 6.5 radio systems do not have the capability at this time to run apps like (pandora, IheartRadio, slacker or aha). It does show it in the manual but Uconnect techs have assured me many, many times that it will not work. If you read closely, it states "if equipped" and no Renegades are equipped even though it shows the Renny in this user manual. Kind of weird and very misleading but hopefully in the future they will publish a software patch that will allow us to use these apps via the radio system like it does in my 14Cherokee with the 8.4 system:)

I stream music BT all the time from my iphone. I mainly use Apple's new Music app. Siri works fine for launching to what I want to hear. I also use Google maps for navigation. I did not get Nav - why bother when my phone has. I tried the UConnect Ap an it was worthless it just complicated things too much.

On the same page but a different note... How do I stop my phone from auto playing every time I plug it in to charge in any of the USB ports? I'll plug it in to charge and then the jeep switches to my phone and starts playing all the audio files, and not music, like the audio guides on how to navigate through my pictures.

If you have bluetooth on, does it still try to connect?

I have a 2016 renegade with uconnect 5.0 and the bluetooth connection is so annoying!

I have the same issue as VikesRule had, namely: starting up the car the FM radio goes on and then it never knows to pick up my phone until I manually go to the "media" section. Then, even then, most times I have to pick around to pair the phone again.

Has anyone found an answer to this issue?

Hi Meghan,

Have you tried working directly with our uConnect team to troubleshoot the issue you’re having? They can be reached 24/7 by calling 1-877-855-8400. You can also double-check to make sure your software is all up-to-date by inputting your VIN here: http://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/.

I am able to play my prime music lists downloaded to moto g through uconnect media player. It automatically resumes when I get back on the road and I can skip tracks.

I have a 16 Renegade with the 5.0 screen, and I stream the Napster (Rhapsody) app from my Android phone through Bluetooth. It does take it a minute to detect the phone, and sometimes, I have to also push play on the phone. But, once it starts, it works well. I haven't tried any other apps or streaming services.

Later!
