Been a while since I've posted on here (been trolling a lot) but wanted to share my latest woe with the Renegade. Seems that within the last 300 miles (has 1200 on it) I'm getting some pretty bad idler/belt tension like "squeaking" sound upon cold startup. Not saying it's either of those, but it reminds me of that sounds (or like a belt slipping). It continues the make the sound at idle and even under load until the car is warm. Haven't had it in for service yet because I'm honestly dreading the whole process. Just wanted to see if I'm the only one lucky enough to have this issue?

First I've seen post it. You could have a fun time like I have had with my subaru. Similar issues, but it's the power steering belt. It's easily fixed by increasing the tension slightly, but EVERY SINGLE TIME I take to a dealer, they keep setting it back to factory spec, which squeals.

Thanks Raz... I suspect it's something to do with the accessory belt or one of the tensioners, but who knows. I'll try to snap a video of it in the morning and upload it.

I had a squeal/screeching sound the other morning in the rain. Not sure if the rain had anything to do with it or what. It has rained other times and it never did this.
The noise started off faint that I didn't even know it was coming from me at first. But then it got really loud. It scared me a little. I pulled over and gave it a look over and then decided to continue to work.
It was strange. It didn't happen on start up. It was around the middle of my trip. And only when I was on the gas or coasting. When I braked it stopped.
The noise kept up for only maybe 30 seconds after I continued on my way and then it went away. (So probably only lasted about 2 minutes total).

Then it was fine on my way home that day and also every day since. *shrug*

The 2.4L engine has a serpentine belt. If it is squealing, it could be a bad idler pulley or the tensioner is not applying enough pressure to keep the belt tight.

Other things could cause squealing too. I'd take it in (the night before) and let them look at it on a cold start up. Make sure to tell them it does it only when it's cold.

So just to update everyone on this and to make a long story short. Sound had continued through early July. I had a service appointment scheduled for a Monday morning and had a video recorded of the sound to show them. Took it for a small road trip (5 hours round trip) the weekend before my appointment. Sunday morning when we left to come home, I noticed it wasn't making the sound. Monday morning it didn't make it either so I canceled my service appointment. 3 weeks later it still doesn't make the noise. I'm baffled. Not sure if something just wasn't seated properly, or maybe a self-lubricating part needed some miles. Either way, sound hasn't returned so I'm thrilled.

I did last winter. They replaced the belt and put it on wrong. So I brought it to a different dealer and they again replaced the belt (correctly this time). Still having issue. I will set up another soon. Thank you

Well 3 appointments later and the issue remains. First they replaced belt. Then I got constant squeal. I looked and they put the belt on completely wrong. Somehow everything worked but betl was rubbing on a piece of metal. 2nd appointment they replaced the belt and put it on correctly.( after they told me I was wrong and it was on right ??‍♂) 3rd time they replaced belt and tensioner (I recommended they change tensioner and idler pully) they laughed and said it was ONLY the tensioner. Issue still remains. Guess maybe 4th time is a charm. Have to bring it in Thursday and leave it overnight. I understand the process of elimination but not changing the idler pulley at same time is dumb. It’s a $14 part. I live in nowhere Montana and I have to drive 30 miles to my dealer. This is getting braaazy!

Well I brought it back. They changed alternator and problem remains. Ugh!!!
