The panic button is loud and easily hit. Is there anyway to disable the thing?

The fob with my Sport Renegade has a key.

You could swap the "blank" button with the "panic" button on the remote. Take the remote apart and just swap the buttons. Keep in mind that the electronic "blank" button inside the remote is actually the trunk/rear hatch release button, so if you push that button the rear hatch will unlock (only the hatch, not the doors). It doesn't work when the vehicle is in motion. If you swap the buttons, the panic feature will still work, but you'll have to press really hard to activate it.

The other option is to build a spacer on the panic button to keep it from pressing down easily. You'll have to take the remote apart and build up a bead of epoxy or something similar in the corners of the button. When you take the remote apart, you'll see that the blank button on the remote has four "legs" or pegs, one in each corner of the button. These legs keep the button from being pressed down to activate the electronic button under it (which is the hatch release button on the circuit board). You can still press on the blank button to activate the electronic button on the circuit board, but you'll have to press hard.

So you're saying that my remote has a hatch/ gate release switch and a blank covering it? Why would they make it this way? I'd love to have a hatch release only switch.

There are a couple of other threads on this topic, but yes, if you have the standard remote with a key, the blank button will unlock your rear hatch. Just push on it TWICE (push hard in the center), and your hatch will unlock and unlatch. The doors stay locked, and the hatch locks when you close it. If you don't want to push hard, take the remote apart and cut the little legs off of the button and it will push in easily just like the other buttons on the remote. The other threads detail how to do it.

Hi Team!

So I know this is an old post, but I noticed that panic button on my fob was VERY sensitive. Let's just say the junk in my trunk kept setting it off...

At first, I tried to be delicate and place a spacer around the posts for the button, but that didn't work.

Then, I thought maybe I would just remove the whole button by de-soldering it, but I couldn't get to the contacts. This was probably a good thing because I am garbage at dealing with chip boards...

Sooooo, I just removed some of the button.

It still works, but you really have to get in there to press the button
I also glued the panic button cap from moving at all for a secondary protection against, uhhh, accidentally pushing the panic button 😅

I understand that this is less than ideal. This is the secondary fob, so it was worth it for me. I've had my Renegade for about a week-ish, and I've accidentally pushed the dang button about eight or nine times. Plus, I don't ever see myself needing the panic button- I rarely panic 😜
