Are they going to install anything at the port?

Everytime I go to buy a car, there's a thousand extra in stuff added to the car "thats done at the port, nothing we can do about it". I got a new Maxima, came with mudflaps added at the port, and added to the bill.

Any idea if the Rene's are going to have any port-added stuff?

Not sure about the Renegade, but as with most silly fees, you can have mixed luck in getting them removed.

"Oh, shame, I was going to buy this weekend but that's just too much for me. If you could take off the port-installed options I'd totally sign the papers on Saturday..."

Dealers might not want to budge on a brand new vehicle though. Depends upon how much demand there is for the vehicle when it launches - it's possible that there could be dealer markup if certain trims are hard to find.

I'd bet the dealer installed those mudflaps on your Maxima. No way a transport company would do that. They were yanking your chain when they said things were added at the port.

That's what we call lying. Most cars I have gone and priced, options are either factory or done at the dealer. Port installed used to be a thing, but I just don't think it is efficient or cost effective these days, and is now used as shorthand for manufacturer offered but dealer installed options as opposed to stuff the dealer made up and the manufacturer never heard about.

Something like the splash guards you mention are factory options for some brands, dealer install for others, but factory offered with standardized invoice and MSRP pricing. That being said, if a dealer prepped a car for the slaes lot and put them on, they are on and not coming off. The fact they pretended they ahd a car without them in negotiations, and then said whoops nothing we can do is underhanded sales tactics.
Just place a factory order the way you want it and then you don't have to worry about extras being added to the car as your order should say the agreed upon price. If they want to give you extras for the same price, let them.
