Well actually what he doesn't like is Sergio Marchionne, he just uses the Renegade as the punctuation mark...

t that doesn't mask the fact that the success of FCA should come with a giant asterisk behind it, because that "success" has been achieved by selling trucks and Jeeps, two things Sergio and his espresso-swilling minions know absolutely nothing about. The True Believers at Chrysler are responsible for any success FCA has experienced. They were doing it before Sergio and his posse got there, and they're doing it now.

As for The Great Sergio's alleged product acumen, you only have to look as far as the new Jeep Renegade - which was orchestrated by Sergio's henchmen to sell in other markets - to see that they don't have a frickin' clue as to what they're doing.

I don't think Chrysler was particularly impressive before the merger. And I think that it is too soon to say whether or not Sergio is heading in the right direction with Jeep. He may be right, but I think that it is too soon to say for sure. We will have to wait and see.

Over the years, Chrysler has has some **** good engineers engineering some really nice products. Then they would have some middling accountant types kick the snot out of said products more often than not.

I think the ethos that was not yet dead on the R&D side of Chrysler has paired pretty well with FIAT culture that requires a higher priority on things looking nicer and feeling nicer.

My $0.02.

Excuse me if I am mistaken or if I missed the point of the quote up there but I'd like to say that I see allot of silly arrogance and short sighted, old school, narrow minded reviewers out there who are too much into a mythical American car spirit whatever in order to notice the reality of the market... Or even know anything about modern car requirement and design...

What Fiat is doing actually, is making Jeep sell cross overs yet Fiat gave them a modern and edgy look inside out...

However, tasteless old school narrow minded reviewers think that a brand like Jeep can survive without investing in such vehicles adapted to the market requirements and harsh competition...

They even think that a Jeep brand can be ruined if designed in Europe...

Did they forget that European cars were always the edgy original ones in the world?

Can you immagine Toyota surviving only by selling FJs and 4Runners?! Not even the Land Cruiser... Or Nissan with its Xterra like trucks?

Not mentioning that many of these reviewers are complaining about a car design without even knowing its real tested capability...

Just because it was not built in the USA?

Just to be honest, Europe always designed better looking cars than the US... This is a clear fact...

Now to get a real truck labeled jeep, one has to build a time machine and travel back to the days when a box on a 4x4 platform with a V8 was the norm coupled with the pollution it produces but hey, gaz price was low...

Yes they need a time machine these outdated reviewers minds

His rant is mostly against Sergio Marchionne and the management of FIAT.

I think railing against the renegade in an article where you quote pissed off suppliers' remarks about needing them to hit 55.4mpg efficiency requirements seems kind of stupid as does complaining about a car that hasn't hit the market yet when there's nothing obviously wrong about it other than "it's not a wrangler!" (tm).

Giving credit solely to chrysler folks isn't really merited either.

A good example is the dodge journey. It sold mid 40k units. Then fiat came along and fixed the horrific interior. Reviewers liked it and it sold mid 50s after the refresh, and then started turning in numbers near 80k and 2014 is shaping up to be pushing 90-100k.

To take even the worst position on the renegade is to say it is a redo of the CUV/hatchback/suburban econobox that was the compass/caliber twins. By that standard, those involved in the design schooled the chrysler folks who managed that one. To win vs. that, it basically has to run for 3 years/50,000 miles and not catch fire.

He's made mention many times that Jeep and RAM we're the only two glimmers of hope at Chrysler before FCA swept in...

lets not make blanket statements about Europes design superiority eh....

I don't know how you could possibly make fun of anything with a Dukes of Hazard paint job on it Willy. Do you see how the front end is cracked? Obviously from jumping over a river where the bridge was out to get away from the local police.
