Believe I found out why 2021 Trailhawks have no engine cover

So my 2021 Trailhawk did not come with a cover. when contacting jeep and researching they say it requires

68411184AB - engine cover
68228213AA - ball joint
06512725AA - bolt

no where does it allow the spacer

i had to go to the 2019 to get the space Engine Identification, Service Engines & Engine Service Kits for 2019 Jeep Renegade | Mopar Estores

68411188AA - spacer

also 68491180AA is the engine cover.

if you go by the diagrams the cover they say fits the 2021 is the 2.4l cover

so at the factory if they are telling them to install the 184ab cover which is not compatable. they left it off since it will never fit. yet werent smart enough to understand the 180aa is the correct one

they only did this for the 2021 getting it mixed up

am i right? can someone verify the part number on their 13l turbo engine cover?

correct cover

Well, first, we kept saying that the 2021 Trailhawk with the 1.3T engine doesn't have an engine cover -- though your dealer told you yours should have. And even though earlier Trailhawks with that engine apparently did.

Yet, as you show, there is an engine cover in the parts catalog for 2021.

Maybe they slightly redesigned the top of the engine for 2021, necessitating (theoretically) a different-shape cover...?

Ya gotta do what ya gotta do... :) But, as the diagrams show, it's "Cosmetic."

So, did you finally get it to fit your 2021?
ive ordered all the parts . just have to wait now.

but they do show it for the 2022

If I recall correctly it was because the parts where not available while building the 2021 model year. The 2021 Islander we have with the 2.4 didn't come with a cover as well.

Where did you hear that? It would be odd that the engine cover was the only part that wasn't available.

I'd say it was more likely to save a couple bucks; since the engine cover is "cosmetic" only.
That's what my dealer was saying at one point

If you look up the engine cover in any of the Mopar online stores you’ll see “Used Up To 08/02/2019” next to item description. That’s probably the release date of the 2020 models. I think they just deleted it to save money. The price of those things is absurd. $97 to $150 for a piece of plastic trim is over the top.

says its for the 2022 also

and if you go to the jeep website they show the cover on 2021 and 2022 models

Maybe it's nothing more than Covid supply chain issues.

Hmmm, you're right.

Of course, it also shows the supposedly-2021 Trailhawk with the older HID headlights, which I don't believe have been available for at least a couple years...

Except they aren't. I mean they are mechanically meaningless, but they provide noise abatement. They are part of the NVH management in modern cars.

NVH? Oh, Noise, Vibration, and Harshness. OK, maybe. Though I can't really see how a cover over just the engine would abate total engine noise. Maybe a bit, from the valves...?

In any case, I don't find the noise from my 1.3T engine to be at all excessive without the engine cover.

It does look nice, though... :)
I just called my salesman about it & he asked me to text him a picture of the engine compartment. I told him if it’s supposed to come with one I want it. We’ll see what happens.
have them look up by your vin , id even say call jeep cares , but the person ive had as a case rep doesnt fit that bill.

i actually got the engine cover today that i bought but trying to get jeep to honor it. will try and get the dealership to step up
What are the part numbers for the small parts needed to install the cover?

Yeah pretty much to cut back on valve train noise, especially with the advent of variable valve timing. The multi-air is exceptionally loud, but most of them aren't quieter than an old school valve train. But they abate noise by the sound hitting them and they vibrate. That's energy taken out of the sound wave.

A lot of NVH stuff is inches adding up to yards.

So other than the space post. none of the attachment points are threaded or have filler threads.

I had to thread the 2 knob spots to get them to attach. now i need to find a plug for the second threaded bolt so it will attach

Which, I hate to say it, seems to indicate that the 2021 1.3T engine wasn't supposed to have the engine cover after all.

Whether it's a good idea or not....

when you say "knob," do you mean Item #3? And the "threaded bolt" is Item #5?

What are you threading them into?

added m6 rivet i do think a m6 9.25 or 10 diameter knurled bolt may fit better. i had to use a wrench to squeeze the rivet in. the 8.7mm knurled was to small

installed ball socket - used m6 screw for space to thread the hole

had to unscrew filler plug with a t25 or t30 before threading the spacer in

Finished

spacer is 5, bolt is 4 , and knobs are 3

i cant find the part number for the plastic cover you have to insert the threaded m6 adapter in . which should tell you what the used as far as a part number but i used a rivot i got off amazon. the knurled plugs will work if you get the right size. just have to insert them. which the factory did not
