Anyone have an issue with your odometer blinking?? The other night, after I did a remote start and got in to press the start button. The odometer started blinking. No warning lights or anything. As I got home, i turned it off and then started it back up and it was back to normal. Anyone experience this? Haven't had anything happen since then.

My odometer blinked when i my Renegade had CAN bus communication errors. In my case it was a sympom of worse problems they never figured out.

In simple terms the flashing odometer is a warning that
something connected to the car's CANBus has failed to respond correctly or in a timely manner during the CANBus start-up/simple diagnostic.

On old FCA cars circa 2001 one trick was to switch on the car ignition and wait 3-5 seconds and let all the console checklights go out before
starting the engine.

I had the same problem with my first Reny.. a Limited 4x4... Long story short and after the dealership having my Jeep for over 70 days.. they couldnt find the source of the issue and I returned it with Nevada Lemon Law help... Went with the Trailhawk as a replacement. You can read some of my thread I posted while going through the issue.. hopefully its helpful... but really the dealership and FCA could not find the source of the issue. http://www.jeeprenegadeforum.com/forum/434-problems-issues/25762-blinking-odometer.html

Good luck.

I cannot believe a dealership is unable to debug a CANBus issue. That would be pitiful.

my 2015 renegade trailhawk started doing the same thing after giving my friend a jump start. plus my navigation wouldn't work right.Took it to the dealership. We replaced the radio and everything worked perfect after that, We tried to update the radio ,that's when we realized the radio was bad.The radio in these cars control almost everything. Cost me $300.00 ,I paid half dealer paid other half.Sounds weird but that was the problem

Jump starting your own Jeep from another is frowned upon unless you follow an exact procedure.

However due to the same conditions that apply I simply refuse to jump start any other vehicle with my Jeep.

The electical system that controls the Jeep is far too sensitive to mess around with. Never jump start anything unless you have specifically followed the instructions in the manual Page 150 and 151

This is 100% incorrect. I have been a senior A.S.E tech for FCA for over 27 years. Matter of fact, you could not be more wrong. It's actually exactly the opposite. If you doubt my credentials I would be happy to send you copies of my last 40 paystubs, my 13 recent ASE's, my FCA certifications, and my references. "Keep the radio updated and you won't have electrical problems".. is nonsense! We just completed the 9th recall on 2014 through 2021 8.4's due to a host of major issues that all the updates in the world won't solve. My advice, don't talk out the side of your mouth.

Jeep Tech, Jeep man, Jeep cares etc etc etc

How about we don't give 2 hoots about what you call yourselves as we don't ever doubt for a second that any of you are Jeep Specialists :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

However, on occasion I agree with a point or 2 that someone makes.

@jeep-tech, I care not for your credentials which could be bogus for all I know as for ONLY 40 paystubs, really? Who needs that kind of info?

All I can advice you is to not read too much into what is mentioned as often I get mixed up with terminology as I know others do. Give them some leeway to be able correct what they have mininterpreted is the way forward.

In support of you I do so agree that a radio is not and will never be the nerve centre that controls a Jeep or any other vehicle. Silly to think so if you ask me.

Perhaps Jeepman has made an error and would like an opportunity to amend such a wild, absurd an unsubstantiated claim?
