I took it to the dealer and they told me that it's typical for the brakes to do that... Something about the material they use... Kind of embarrassing to have a new car with loud squealing brakes. Anyone else heard this before?

For the renegade? No. For brakes in general? Yeah, I've run into several formulas of high performance pad compound that squeal pretty bad. OEM compound though? Not on anything I could afford. Improper installation can cause it though. Both bad installs and aggressive compound don't tend to suddenly go from quiet to squealing a lot after a while. In my experience they get to that point rapidly.

I have no noise break in period. Really quiet smooth ride.

Around 2000 miles the brakes start squeaking when I press them. I don't have an issue with it in old cars, but in a new car... /sigh. A few more 100 miles and it went away.

Various things can't cause squeaky brakes, but not in a new car. Most of my old cars have lifetime brake pads from Autozone, so I don't mind changing them out. But with the rotors resurfaced/turned on every pad change, caliper piston greased, and anti-squeak used on the back of the new pads I don't really get squeaky brakes anymore. I only get them when someone else does the install or bad pad wear.

What you were likely hearing was the rust on the rotors wearing off. This is normal and doesn't hurt anything. The rotors are made of cast iron which rusts quite quickly. If sitting for weeks (like at a dealer lot or in transport), a lot of rust can build up.

If you take notice, you will start to see a film of rust a few hours after you wash the car. Leave the car sit without driving it for a few weeks and the rust will build up to the point where you can hear the scraping noise. The rust (and the noise) goes away after applying the brakes a few times.

My brakes make noise when backing out of my garage in the morning and sometimes during the day. This morning they squelled bad backing up and also made noise when I sent through McDonalds drive-thru around 1630hrs after driving for 20 miles. Hmmm.... I think noise might be coming from the front brakes. Think I will check them this weekend, etc.. New car that is 45 days and has 2300miles should not make noise. I understand if it sits for awhile or rust builds up to make noise but almost every morning it does it when I back up.

Quick update-- I removed both front tires, jacked up the renny and inspected the brakes. All seems good so I started the vehicle and engaged to drive and reverse (no tires installed but re-installed some lug studs to keep rotors from wobbling). Went slow, fast and eased on the brakes and no noise. Cleaned everything good and re-installed front tires, etc. Went the the back and done same thing. This time I noticed some slack and could see caliper frame rubbing against pads. After removal, I noticed there was no brake pad lubricant between caliper mounting points and out part of brake pads. I am pretty sure this can sometimes cause squealing and noise. I lubricated both rear calipers and re-installed everything. Tomorrow I am going to drive to work and see if the noise has stopped. Its getting really annoying and embrassing to have a brand new vehicle's brakes squeal. My wife can hear me leave the garage every morning and she can hear the squeal all the way upstairs in the bedroom. Updates to follow soon. I have also uploaded some pics and you can clearly see were the caliper is rubbing against the out part of the pads.
