My mother-in-law bought a 2021 Jeep Renegade. She’s short and can’t reach the tailgate to close it when it’s open. The dealer said there’s nothing that can be done. After measuring the existing gas supports I bought new ones with about 1.25” shorter stroke. These were easy to install and lowered the “raised height” of the tailgate by 6.5”. Problem solved. Here is what I bought on Amazon:

That might of worked. I was worried a strap would sometimes stick out the tailgate when shut. Something more rigid would protrude into the cargo space when shut. The gas support struts were $21 for the pair so I went that route.
