Hooray! Received my cargo cage today. Didn't take long to install.

Walk-through pics @ my Facebook page, :)

- Cargo Cage Installed

Will drive around for about a week before loading it up, just to make sure it stays snug and secure, :)

The rubber cover over the connectors is a nice touch! Anyone that has ever had any sort of basket that pieces together knows how much water accumulates and eventually turns to rusty sludge in the tubes. I am going to take mine off here soon and slap a fresh coat of paint on it. While I am at it I am going to buy some large shrink wrap for that portion.

I thought that exact thing. The instructions didn't actually state to cover the screw holes, just the seam where the pieces meet. But knowing how water loves to sneak in and sludge things up, I decided to double-up on the purpose the sleeves served :)

Only thing that suck is those that butcher them with using a flat head screwdriver that has really pointy ends and don't go the extra length to wrap it in tissue or something soft.

Well, it's been a week today that I installed the cargo cage. My mileage has not gone down at all, I'm very surprised.

I'd say abou 95% of my driving is city, and I've been averaging between 20 and 22 since I brought Lil'Red home back on 6/20. I thought for sure it'd drop a little after adding a ~20-pound cage to the roof.

Pleasantly surprised, :)

Wind resistance doesn't become the primary source of drag on the vehicle until about 40mph. City driving should see the least impact from something like this.

Where did you get the cross bars from? My roof rack does not have any of those. Unless I missed that they're included with the basket.

I found them on eBay.

Adjustable Aluminum Roof Top Rack Cross Bars Crossbars W/ Lock & Mounting Kit

There's lots of mixed feelings about the brand and the amount of $$$ folks should spend on cross bars. I figured for $50 it was worth a try. My last two vehicles came with factory cross bars, that in my feeling were much less solid than these - didn't lock and were very flimsy under load.

I made a slight modification to the inner bracket of the rear-mounted bar, to allow mounting in the position I wanted.

They have been very sturdy, and I haven't needed to even snug them up since adding the cargo cage. Loaded some supplies earlier this week; spare tires for my buddy's camper, couple coolers, some fire wood. Everything was nice and solid. I'm very satisfied with both the cross bars and the cargo cage.

Little Red:
Glad to hear your ARES crossbars are holding up as well as mine. I have noticed many people commenting on them being cheap and that they would not purchase. I have used mine at least 15 times since I bought them and they have been excellent. Carried pontoons, tires, wood, steel and ladders and they have performed great. If someone wants to order the $300-$500 crossbars, then so be at, but for my $ you cannot go wrong with the ARES crossbars (eBay) which cost less than $50 delivered.
I, like you, have not had to retighten the clamps since I originally installed. Appears these were a good buy and I would highly recommend for anyone needing inexpensive crossbars.
Really like your basket and I would purchase also, but my garage door is too low which would cause me to remove and replace when I needed.

My renegade came with the CURT rack and cross bars. All black. I am going to seal the screws with silicone and a wrap of gorilla tape.

The CURT is bulkier looking and there are extenders available on line.

I ordered the Highland on amazon and it is a sleeker, more professional look with a little lower profile. I needed one for the other truck I have so i'm good. I also ordered a cargo net to compliment the set-up.

The crossbars on Ebay are about $45, the basket on Amazon or Ebay are between $75 and $110 for good models.

Great posts!
