Admittedly, never owned a diesel car. But I was waiting for the 2016 Renegades to see if they'll offer the diesel.

I drive 24,000 miles/year. All at 65mph highway miles. And I keep my cars pristine over 10 years. I wanted the economy plus the torque to get up the on-ramps.

But with gasoline at $2.65 and diesel at $3.90, any fuel savings is gone.

So is paying an extra $4000? more for for the durability of a diesel that will go 240,000 miles and 10 years?

I guess I'm asking the diesel people as I've never had one.

That´s the difference over here in Germany ... we pay 1.399 € per ltr on gasoline and 1.249 € per ltr. on Diesel ... so far the Diesel engine pays of for me.

For the first 270 km i needed 19 ltr. Diesel that´s about 7 l/100km that´s quite OK for a Car like this ...

And so far Diesel Engines (turbo charged) run about 200000 to 350000 km on one engine ... depends on how you care about them

Yes i will see if that works ... i Guess the milage shown on my Renegade is a bit pessimistic it shows average 13.3 km/ltr that would be 7.52 ltr/100km ... but i actually filled him up before starting the 270 km Trip on Wednesday and filled him up again on Friday after the 270 km ... both times Snorkel fully in and let him refuel till automatic stop ...

On my Peugeot 308cc it was quite different ... that car showed average 6.3 ltr/100km but the real used Diesel was about 6.8 to 7 ltr/100km ...

So the Renegade has now 2250 km i will see weather it stabilises after the first 3000 km ...

All i can say is just i bought a good Car that is easy to drive like a Cart ... engine runs smooth and quiet ... the steering is very direct ... i guess they made it right for me ... :D

That's what I want to hear. Easy to drive. Direct steering, Smooth engine. All the things I have now but dread finding isn't in the Renegade.

For me the main reason for changing to a diesel engine (my first one) isn't the cost of diesel, but the gain in torque, My Jeep Liberty with the 3.7L engine can in no way keep pace with the 2.0L diesel of the Trailhawk. I also feel the diesel suits the character of a Jeep more.

I will tell you this; I can't stand being behind a diesel car, bus, or pickup truck. The fumes are quite noticeable and annoying, especially if the vehicle owner removed the particulate filter.

And they're quite noisy at idle. I'll stick to gasoline engines.
