So when I shut my Trailhawk off I'm hearing a dripping/pinging sound somewhere behind the engine, kind of like what it sounds like if you had the air conditioning running, only I'm not. Anybody else hear anything like that? Also, what's the average tranny temperature? I was at 181 just now on the highway (it's about 70 out right now). I'm still super paranoid after my earlier transmission problem.

I hear this often in cold and warm weather. Hasn't seemed to leave any residue or caused any issues. Not sure what the source is, all I can think is new parts, and cooling from thermal expansion, but I'm no car expert.

How long are you guys driving before finally stopping and noticing this noise?
I usually notice it after I drive home from work, which is about a 5-10 minute drive. It does seem like it may be some kind of thermal expansion/contraction type thing rather than dripping. Though like aardvark I've wondered if it is dripping onto some kind of plate underneath the vehicle.

One way to confirm if it's actually something dripping... after a long drive, jack and place one side of the car on jack stands. If something is really dripping onto a plate or panel, tilting the vehicle as such should allow the liquid to drip to the ground. Use a wheel chock for additional safety (in addition to parking brake).

My money says it's thermal contraction.

Hi Daniell and welcome.

You might not receive a reply from Alexsyandr as their last post to your issue was 5 years ago. Fingers crossed you get a reply from other forum members as I have no idea what could be causing the dripping noise.

Could you provide some further details?

  • Perhap where you think the dripping is coming from,
  • is it liquid onto metal or plastic,
  • Is there a time interval between drips,
  • Can you see any leakage
  • etc, etc, etc
