I enjoy detailing the engine bay in my vehicles (helps sell it if I ever decide, I’m my own mechanic so it’s easier to work in there, and it’s just great to see a clean engine!). So figured I’d show you a before and after with the ‘17 Renegade for kicks and grins. This one was easy since it only had 5000 miles on it when we got it.

Here’s an ‘09 Camry we purchased with 40,000 miles on it. I sold it before completing the detail (was going to fix the rusty battery terminal and other stuff).

After:

(The red and white lettering I did simply with a paint pen and held up great!)

I read that sprays like WD40 can be used to bring up the plastic for a quick shine.

There is another spray that goes on, left for a while and rinsed off but I wouldnt want water going where it shouldn't in the Jeep.

Great job that you achieved :D:D:D(y)(y)(y)

Interesting about the WD40. I simply use Meguiars Ultimate Trim Restore (I think. I get a little confused sometimes with all the different solutions I have, haha!).

That looks great !!

I, too, like the look of a clean engine bay. But to be honest, I'm leery to get too deep into cleaning this particular vehicle's engine, it's almost like a house of cards, if I touch/clean one thing wrong it may make several other problems.

My first-ever brand new vehicle was a 1987 Suzuki Samurai Special Edition and I kept that little thing spotless. I mean anal-retentive spotless. Probably because it was my first brand new car (7 miles on it) and everything was spotless already. The engine was small (1.3 liter), I even waxed the valve cover, the fender wells, all painted metal bits with car wax, and 0000 steel wooled all the metal tubing to a shine. Then I went back with low gloss Armor All on all the plastic, even the brake reservoir !!

Here's the scary part; one time while walking up to it, I noticed the black fuel tank had a white haze on it (like ALL fuel tanks). Yes, I crawled underneath and scrubbed the tank black then waxed it !! Then the rear axle, front axle, shocks, because the clean tank made the rest look bad...I was obsessed !! Yes, I even waxed the body underneath !! My "procedure" after that initial scrub was while washing the exterior (that people see), was to have another hose with a lawn sprinkler running, beneath the Zuki, slowly moving it down while I washed above. Then after I dried the top off, I went underneath (wearing goggles, lots of dripping water) and dried the underbody. It was, and I was, insane. I actually convinced myself I was protecting the underbody because that's where all the salt and sand from the beach was. But it looked showroom new. On a Suzuki Samurai....lol

It'd be somewhat comforting to say I only did that once, but I'd be lying.
