Extended Warrenty, does it make sense?

Hello, new owner. Put a deposit on Silver TH with everything except the Sky Roof. The cost through my dealer for the Lifetime warrenty is $2800.00 with a $200 deductable. Not sure what it really covers and is it worth it or not. Thanks from Norm

I saw in another post that I believe as of 5/11 that the warranty went up to $3200-$3600. Not sure how it works. Did you order yours with the tow package?
From what I've read, there's a lot of give there. You should be able to work them down to the $1900 range. If they refuse, tell them you'll purchase the warranty through another dealer. It can be bought through any FCA outlet.

Hello, supposily they came down on the warrenty quote, still thought is was high. No I didn't get the tow package, as I will get that through Renegadeready.com and install myself. Thankyou
Does anyone remember which thread listed that username for the forum person that sells extended warranties, or his name? Thanks.... can't find the info! Has anyone purchased one recently & what did you pay? How long after you purchase your vehicle do you have to buy it? Thanks!!

His price is $2365, most dealers will match it, but the benefit from getting from Clay is if you're out of state, you won't be paying sales tax.

Your question is, "does the extended warranty make SENSE?" What is needed to determine this is the situation your car ownership brings you too. My daily commute is 150 miles. I've averaged 1k miles a week during the first two weeks of ownership. For me, the warranty was an absolute necessity.

The are people that will tool around in their jeep on the weekends. I don't know WHY you would only drive such a wonderful machine only on the weekends, but I digress ;) For those not putting miles on the vehicle, keeping it in a garage, and babying it... Warranty might not make much sense.

All I need to get my money back is a major repair (transmission). There have been enough horror stories on the boards about tranny's (is it still okay to call them that) failing, that I felt I needed protection because this is my daily driver. If I can't drive to work, I can't train soldiers. That is a BAD day.

So, does the warranty make sense for YOU? WE (the collective us on the forums) really have no way of determining that...

This was a great question none the less...

Thank you Foobar!!
Eileen, this thread gives you a link to what is covered in the extended warranty, and this other one, talks more about it.

Is this for the lifetime warranty?

My dealer's sales manager says they don't/won't sell them but I can talk to the finance guy when I go sign papers Saturday. This sucks cause it means I can't roll it into the financing and I don't have $2300 laying around :( Hoping the finance guy says something different otherwise I'm stuck with a 5 year warranty for the same price.

That's odd, it's a service contract with FCA and the dealership stands to make a little money in both selling the contract & possible repairs in the future. Makes no sense to tell you that. All was handled by the finance guy when I purchased the Maxcare. I have a feeling the dealer didn't care because it is not a slice of the pie for him.

I'm betting it's because of that. I would think if it's a service contract through FCA though, they would have to sell it if someone requests it.

Yep. Max Care Lifetime with $100 deductible.

It's a Chrysler product so they should be able to sell it.
Chrysler Capital supposedly offers direct-to-consumer loans. Maybe you could ask them for options on the warranty funancing? https://chryslercapital.com/about
I emailed Clay and got a reply back in less than 5 minutes! He is "da man"!! :D

They do offer financing. It's 10% down and then 18 months no interest on the balance, which ends up being about $112 a month to pay it off.

I'll give my dealer/finance guy a chance to sell me this one on Saturday when I pick my baby. If not, I will go through Clay.

Don't forget that Clay won't charge taxes if you're out of state whereas your dealer will.

Oh, good point. Looks like my dealer just lost some commission unless they offer some sort of compensation.
