While getting my regular service I asked to have my faulty fog lamps looked at. Turns out, they are shorted out due to moisture, and will require a $590 price tag to replace he for light assembly. It’s not covered under my lifetime warranty. After getting passed around to four different phone numbers, The warranty people say it’s a design flaw, but Jeep won’t acknowledge faulty design. So apparently I own the only Jeep that’s not allowed to get wet! Anybody else run into problems with fog lamps?
I have been wondering about the design decision where lamps are replaced by going thru the wheel well. I have never had another car where I had to do that. Wheel wells have always been mud traps and to be avoided. So trapped mud causes rust of the access points to replace lamps. I would call that a safety defect worthy of a recall. If I can't replace my burned-out lights, people aren't necessarily going to be able to see me. While researching the voltage regulator recall on my car I noticed that NHTSA accepts complaints from owners. Here is a link FYI. https://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/VehicleComplaint/

Just be thankful you don't have to take the actual wheel off to do it.
Which is the case on many FWD compact cars that now have zero space in the engine bay.
The bulbs are super easy to replace IMO. Id just keep throwing halogen bulbs in the fogs vs paying 600 bucks for all new housings.....that is a dealer just stealing your money.
A set of bulbs is like 30 bucks.....
Turn the wheel fully and use a screwdriver to remove the access panel inside the wheel well. Then reach in remove bulb and reverse process. 10 min job tops for both fogs.
You and I know it's an easy job but if it's a design flaw then why should we have to keep paying.
Well, I own the car and it was my option so I bear the consequences for not having did the proper research before buying.
I noticed that my DRLs LEDs had burnt out with water potentially entering them but I do admit to travelling through deeper than normal rainwater on the road. Often a person needs to man-up and own their poor decisions.

Dosen't mean you need to spam our board. Jeep doesn't own it.
This is an example of the type of thing that makes the value of extended warranties questionable. If you had just stuck the $3k in hte bank you would have the cost of this covered.
i had mine replaced under warranty a little while ago after I noticed some moisture in them a few days after it rained. By the time i made it to the dealer the moisture was pretty much gone, but i had taken photos and the service dept. went based off of those. havent had the issue since

That is exactly what ours looked like on our 2016 75th anniversary edition. The lens is actually melted almost as if the wrong wattage bulb was installed from the factory.
Did you check with your dealer to see if they will cover it?
I am in Florida 90 + out side all the time and I don't know any one that had this problem with there BU yet. Good luck.
2016 TH with 40k on it. Father-in-law was saying the lights seem dimmer (or it's his eyes). Neighbor told him one was burnt out and he needs to go for inspection. Some places actually fail you for "non working" factory fog lights, so I picked up some bulbs on the way home to change them both. I turned them on to see which one is out and both work, I think neighbor saw the turn on one side cornering light.
In any event while looking I saw they were looking a bit dim. Rusted reflectors don't make for very good light output. No big puddles, never off-roaded it, never beached it, normal roads and road conditions in NY only. One link showed new factory replacements at about $85 each plus shipping.
@JeepCares is this something that should be covered under the extended Mopar coverage bought through recommended dealer here at RenegadeForum?
I've never had that from multiple different car manufacturers or my Hella's, Cibie, Diode Dynamics, PIAA or Morimoto's. Even the cheaper Blazer and Optilux never had that and saw MUCH more water puddles, dirt etc. on my cars than what he drives.
He has the pictures to show service manager when he goes to Jeep tomorrow.
Dealer says it's NOT covered with Max Care. Same story of if you want to replace, $120 each plus labor etc AND he says it will happen again. They say it happens to all the Renegades with that style light and some the entire bulb melts out harness. Funny I don't find many posts on that.
How the F is that not covered under warranty? Melting housings, bulbs melting out? I have NEVER had that happen on any of my cars in over 40 years unless I was running higher wattage bulbs. The Jeep ones are bone stock.
