I maybe wrong but I believe the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump in the gas tank and is not serviceable.
You are 100% correct!I maybe wrong but I believe the fuel filter is integrated into the fuel pump in the gas tank and is not serviceable.
Does this surprise you ? Just one more idiotic thing about this (or all modern) engines. Don't perform maintenance, replace with new. Yep, instead of replacing a 2 dollar part on a fuel line that takes 5 minutes, replace a 600 dollar part that requires you to drain and remove your entire fuel tank and take a full day....So we never need to replace the fuel filter ever? Or in order to replace the fuel filter we have to replace the entire pump?
Very few new cars have fuel filters, if any. All are built into the pump. Not just a Jeep thing. So we never need to replace the fuel filter ever? Or in order to replace the fuel filter we have to replace the entire pump?
Yup. My 3 year old dishwasher stopped working yesterday. I priced out a new pump, it's almost the price of a new dishwasher. If I had to pay someone to do it, I'd have to pay for the service call. Than they would have to get parts, come back and install. I'd be at or above the price of new. Everything is disposable now.Does this surprise you ? W E L C O M E ! ! !So there is no filter , and you have to buy a new fuel pump
Still wouldn't solve the issue. The main filter is built into the pump, all the contaminants are going to collect there before every going down the line to a secondary filter. All you're doing is putting in redundancy.Just put a fuel filter in the line somewhere.
I have not had mine out yet but on most sending units I have seen you can snatch the filter off of the unit and put another one on or just run it with it off.Still wouldn't solve the issue. Considering there is no scheduled maintenance for the "fuel filter", this seems a bit over the top. But... if you're in there having to replace the fuel pump, it might make sense if you believe the built in filter is an issue. Personally, I haven't heard many owner having issues with the filter. I have seen people needed to replace fuel pumps, but that's usually a one and done job. The pumps do not have a history of repetitive failure on these vehicles. Seems that a lot of the "older" generation are just used to way things used to be done, and struggle with not performing the same level/frequency of maintenance on newer vehicles. Other examples being 100k interval on spark plugs (I don't like this one myself), 10k interval oil changes, sealed transmissions, etc.I have not had mine out yet but on most sending units I have seen you can snatch the filter off of the unit and put another one on or just run it with it off.
Just seen this post. Nev's correct, diesel Renegades have a fuel filter. Located on the left of the engine bay at the back, when looking from the front of the car.I guess it depends on which engine?
