A couple of days ago I was filling up my tank for the first time at about 200 miles into my renegades life.

The pumped started overflowing and spewing out gas viciously. I turned off the pump. Luckily it was raining so i don't think it will affect my paint. I alerted the station employee and he said there hasn't been any problems at that pump.

It smells like gas in my garage even though it's been days. I heard this could be due to some area of my car being flooded with gas? Also my gas gauge has read full and hasn't gone down since the incident.

Any insight would be helpful. Bringing it to the dealer tomorrow. Will keep posted.

with the capless.. uhh cap..

It has, from what I understand two spring loaded gates and some magic lockout mechanics to keep you from trapping a finger in there and some other fun stuff.

IF you do not get the nozzle seated properly past the second flap, you will pump gas into the area where the overflow vent is located and get a puddle. This is designed behavior in most cars so you get gas sprayed under the car rather than all over the person pumping. Just in traditional setups, seating the nozzle is not as big a PITA.

This isn't something jeep specific, I tracked down the behavior from ford owners.

Thanks for the help!

Hopefully that's the extent of the problem.

However it did spray all over me (had I been standing right next to it) rather than spilling a puddle. It was a fast stream and stared spraying EVERYWHERE.

Update:

On my way to the dealer this evening my gauge finally dropped 2 of the 12 fuel lights finally turned off.

We'll see what it is. Hopefully it just needed some time to reset.

Another thing I was worried about was when I tried to start my car it made that engine starting sound but didn't start. Tried it again and it started just fine. Then for about 30 minutes into my 2 hour drive the car jolted about 4 times whilst on the highway.

For your sake, I hope you don't smoke. As for hesitation on starting, check battery and alternator health. If there is a electrical drain, that could weaken the battery just enough where it doesn't have quite enough juice to fire the car right up.

Also, in modern cars, it is recommended that you turn and leave the key to the on position so that the fuel system can pressurize before clicking it over to "ignition". Since the Renegade's system is keyless/push button... this probably doesn't apply.

Just push the start button without foot on break, that puts it in accessory power mode, then press again to go to full on. With brake depressed, pushing the button starts the ignition.
