I am on a few forums with a different user name. Only a couple have anything to do with off road, 4x4's or Jeeps.

I've never owned a Jeep, but always wanted one. Had had an old 4x4 Ford. I think it was a 1963 or 1964 F-100 or something like that. That was a long time ago and I really don’t recall the model. I had a 1974 Dodge Power Wagon. I miss that one, wish I still had it.

I've been looking for a 1984 - 1997 Cherokee to convert to Diesel power. HOWEVER.... I saw the Jeep Renegade on Motor Week TV show from the Geneva Auto Show. They did a little segment on the new Renegade. I Think I changed my mind. I like what I saw about the Renegade. A diesel option is not (yet) available in the U.S., but all the same I like it.

I saw the Renegade at the Ontario California Auto Show on 05/17/2014. I talked the Jeep guy into letting me behind the ropes and sit in it. (Sorry, I didn’t have my phone or a camera with me) I really, really liked it. I fit in it quite comfortably. Ergonomics were good. However, I wasn’t driving it, so “Real World” opinion is limited.

Welcome to the show and thank you for the insight! Did you fiddle with the ergonomics to find your comfortable driving position? I sadly don't think we're going to be getting the diesel option in North America. As a small city vehcile not expected to rack up the miles diesel makes little sense. The extra fuel cost coupled with low miles driven means you're actually losing money :(

How tall are you? How was the head/leg room and visibility compared to Patriot and Wrangler. Sure I can get the measurements for these but I'd like to know how it felt :)

I'm 6'3" and I was about to buy a patriot a few months ago. Unfortunately, there was not enough leg room to operate the clutch comfortably. Also, the windshield was -although upright- a little low causing it to have limited visibility.

I think you're the first in the forum to have a chance to sit in it. Congrats on that :D

I’m 5’9”. The Renegade had power seats, but was unable to adjust them. However, they were set perfect for me. Seat was easy to get in and out of. It had an automatic trans. (For reasons I’m not getting into here, automatic trans it what I’ll probably get) I do like the 6 speed standard trans. Shift lever was in a perfect location for me. Brake and gas peddles were just right. I was able to change gears a little. It felt good, but real world driving might be different. Radio / Nav system was an easy reach and comfortable. I had more than enough head room. I could have worn any of my western hats (cowboy hats) with room to spare. Sorry, I didn’t have my cell phone or any other camera available to take any pictures. I didn’t try the rear seat, but it looked like there was enough room to move the front seat back for some one 6’3”. A ’02 VW Jetta TDI is my daily driver and the Renegade seemed to have more leg room and hip room. Not much more, but a bit more none the less.
I see several “SMART” cars on the freeway here in SoCal. They are meant to be “city” cars. A Diesel in the Renegade makes sense as an option here in the US. There are plenty of possible owners that would use it for long commutes. Even thought the “SMART” is not a diesel, there is at least one person I know (co-worker) that drives theirs over 50 miles one way to commute. My TDI gets better mileage than they get and my car has more room. I would love to see a diesel Renegade, from the driver’s seat.

Welcome to the forum! How awesome that you got to sit in it! When I saw it at the NYIAS in April, they had the My Sky panels out. I could have gotten a boost up and in, but didn't want to get thrown out of the show.

welcome aboard! I thought North America was not getting the manual either, I was under the impression we would only be getting the ZF 9 speed?
You can get the 1.4 turbo with the manual and in 4x4 in Sport and Latitude trims. If you need to tow, you can only get that with the 2.4 9-speed, and the aux tranny cooler.

Yup... The guy from Jeep / Ram / Dodge / Chrysler asked me to be quick when he let me get in the Renegade. He didn't want his boss seeing him let some one behind the ropes (...and sit in it!) I definitely didn't want him to get in any trouble. I didn't realize it even had "My Sky" panels. He gave me the brochure when I was done and of I went. A few days later I started searching the internet and found this site as well as another one.
WoW... A forum for a Jeep that isn't even on the roads yet. I am pleasantly surprised. :D

Hi RenegadeWest,
Welcome aboard, glad you found the Renegade Forum. I'm in SoCal Inland Empire as well so it will be interesting to compare local notes on the best dealer deals and and local trails.
