I am very interested in the Renegade. I have been looking to replace my aging Escape for a long time, but I prefer truckish/boxy styling rather than the newer aerodynamic crossovers. The other thing is that I have to have manual tranny. If that don't happen, it will be unfortunate.

Looking forward to seeing how this vehicle develops.

I think this is still speculation...I'm hoping for at least the base model to offer a manual trans. The new Chevy Colorado in the same price point is offering a 6-speed manual as the standard transmission on the base model. There should be enough volume at this price point to justify offering the manual option in the US.

The Colorado has peaked my curiosity also, as it should have a manual. I just hope it hasn't grown too much in size.

Welcome to the forum! You will be able to get the Renegade with a manual in 4x4, but not in the Trailhawk model. Your choice may depend on how much you want a manual with a locking diff.

I can live without the locking differential. My off-road needs are minimal - fire roads, easy trails.

From what I've seen, you will be able to get a manual on the Sport and the Latitude, but only with the turbocharged 1.4L. So no towing capability if you want a manual. But you can get it in 2WD or 4WD, but only Active Drive 1, so you won't get a crawl mode or skid plate.

Unfortunately, the manual limits some of the other options available on the Renegade.

Thanks for the welcome. Sorry to hear I cannot tow and have a manual. I often trailer a dirtbike or utility trailer for mulch or whatnot.

At one time, a RAV4, CRV, Escape, Tribute, Element, and others could be had with a manual. Now, only a CX-5, Forester, Tiguan, and maybe one of the Compass/Patriot base models can be bought with a manual. I would probably own a Cherokee now had it been available with a manual.

Funny too, as most of the complaints I've heard about the Cherokee is the 9-speed auto.

Renegade DOES come with manual as an option. But only on Sport and Latitude with the 1.4L turbo. As you go up in trim to Limited and TrailHawk, the manual is no longer an option (they only come with the 2.4L and 9-speed automatic).

Yeah, some of us who like manuals also like simplicity. I would like the normally-aspirated engine and the ability to tow (with a manual).

Ideal combo is Diesel plus MT. That's got the most tow cap for the world market.
