I went to the Detroit Show today with specific intent to check out a half dozen models that might be of interest to me. Needless to say the
Renegade was at the top of the list.

My main reason for looking at an alternative to my very satisfactory and reliable 14' Mazda 6 was my desire for something with easier ingress and egress. Part of the problem is me as I need to lose a boatload of weight (working on it) which I'm sure contributes to the problem. Of course, I couldn't get a handle on the comfort of the Renegade since the powers that be deactivated the power seats leaving the vehicle in a less than ideal seating position and making it impossible to gauge comfort. (same in the 500X)

One problem I did notice was an unusually high door sill (in the 500X as well) which I caught my foot on trying to enter both the 500 and the Renegade. I literally had to think to raise my foot before entry to avoid bumping or catching my foot on the sill. Has anyone noticed this or considered it to be an issue of any kind.

Seeing this as a potential problem for me.

That high door sill contributes to the vehicle body strength and wading depth. Jeep engineered the body to cope with a lot of flex and twist for off road capability. Used primarily on-road that extra engineering usually equates to a long lasting shell. None of the competitors will have that over-engineering of the shell. And the high step will become second nature after a short while when your memory takes over that mundane task.

My wifey does not agree, she have been complaining about it for 14 yrs. If the Renegade is THAT high then she won't let me buy one.

Actually it's not that the vehicle height is particularly high it's the sill itself that seems to be reinforced with a few extra inches inside the car itself which makes you have to step over it. Why Jay suggests you'll just get used to it. Would like to hear from current owners and their thoughts.

Why Jay is correct...this is because Jeep engineers their vehicles to certain specs for water fording depth, etc. If you want a rugged vehicle (compared to the competition) then you make certain sacrifices. If you think it's bad in the Renegade, go check out a Wrangler. There are people who NEVER get used to the door step in on those.
