I've been reading this forum the last few days and am looking at purchasing a Trailhawk when I get back to my hometown in August. Unfortunately, the dealers don't have the color or exact options I want on the lot. I saw that some people on the forum have special ordered their Renegades. The internet sales people at the jeep dealers I've emailed in Las Vegas don't seem overly excited to assist me when I tell them I won't be back there until August.

How does the ordering process work?

Thank you for your assistance.

Hello, ordering is simple. Just go to the dealer and tell them the exact options you are looking for. They will want to do a dealer search first to see if any other dealer has one. If not then tell them you would like to order one. This is when you will start your price negotiating. Once you have agreed on a price they will have you sign next to the numbers and then will ask for a non refundable down payment (typically $500 from my past 2 I have ordered). That $500 will go towards the Jeep once it comes in. If you change your mind before it comes in you are out the $500 but they cannot make you purchase it they will just be stuck with it in inventory. Right now they are saying 2-4 month wait period. Typically it usually only takes about 8-10 weeks but this being a new model they are trying to catch up. Also make sure you get the print out of the order that will have a VON on it. This is how you can track the process until they issue you a VIN. I ordered mine 5/29 and still not been assigned a VIN but it is currently D1 status.

Hope this helps!

I should point out that even if they say it's a non-refundable deposit, in most states, that would be illegal and they are required by law to prove that the particular vehicle you ordered is not something they would be able to sell to someone else. This being the case, almost every dealer in the country will simply refund you the deposit knowing full well that they'll just sell the car to the next guy.

The tag on my BRZ is 'FOO' just like the Smokey Stover car ;)

Off-topic, but in any case - many years ago, I started my career as a computer programmer. Always used 'foo', 'bar', 'baz', 'qux', 'xyzzy', 'syzygy', and others as variable names in a hurry. The habit stuck and I've used combinations as forum names and whatnot since then.

...and now back to our regularly scheduled progam!

Renegade art

L'ispirazione?
