Interesting. It looks so much bigger in pictures. Good to know.

Even if it wasn't small, I just don't like the styling. Too many models these days have the headlight housing angled back so you see it on the side of the car.

I don't care why companies do this, I just can't stand the look. I'll take my cars with the headlights in the front, thank you.

I considered the HR-V briefly before I purchased my Renegade. I sat in on at the NY auto show and ten decided not to get it.

Yes, it is small. But also, it is pretty boring, style-wise. It is a sleeker CR-V, but that doesn't say much considering the the CR-V is the ugliest crossover on the market.

The HR-V will sell like hotcakes because it is a Honda and it is aesthetically conservative. I wanted a Renegade because it felt like a true SUV and it has character out the wazoo.

A few weeks ago, before my Trailhawk arrived and I was still wondering if I made the right decision going with a Renegade and not an HR-V, I was backing out of my driveway when I realized...sitting in my neighbor's driveway was...BAM...a new HR-V. Immediately I thought..."Wow...that looks REAL good, I wonder if they'd let me test drive it." A few days later, in came my Trailhawk :) Parked next to the HR-V, and realized..."Oh yeah...no question about it...I made the absolute RIGHT decision!!"

My Trailhawk looks HUGE next the the HR-V. And, how does one even see out of the back of that Honda?...the roof slants down so much, making the back side windows and rear window look smooshed. And, don't EVEN get me started on the styling difference between the two vehicles. Let's just say, if you're wanting to standout in the world and look innovative...go with the Renegade. 'Course...I stand out even more, being I have the Omaha Orange ;-). But, if you want to blend in with everyone else on this planet...get the HR-V.

And, I know there's been new Renny owners on here with some problems...which has led into people worried the Renegade made be poorly made, but upon researching the HR-V forums, many HR-V test drivers have complained about the lack of really being able to accelerate the HR-V, disappointed in its lack of power...and lack of room inside, and have decided NOT to get the HR-V. There have been other reported issues as well. So...no car brand is without its disappointments and problems. As I've mentioned before, in the 7 years I owned my TOYOTA Rav4 v6 engine....I had 7 safety recalls I had to get fixed. Still loved that car, though. I just rolled with the issues.

I too came to the Renegade from a RAV4 and just couldn't buy the new ones. They are just starting to look too plain to me. The HR-V's looked okay on the outside but the inside, again, just didn't seem to look like the car I wanted to drive as it was again too plain looking. The Renegade on the other hand looked great, both inside and out and is just the right size for me. I too have worries about quality issues, especially coming form a Toyota where I have had virtually no problems (despite the recalls). Fingers crossed if I take care of the Renegade, it too will be a good long-term form of transportation.

The HR-V is a Honda, but IMO it also suffers from some of the same design trends that are seen in other small CUVs, namely that it tries too hard not to be a box in order to look "styled", especially in the back. I see this mostly in Asian CUVs, though there are some Euro ones that do it too (I'm looking at you, Audi Q3). I'm sure others notice this?--the swoopy back deck, angled toward the front as it curves up to the roof. Sure it looks stylish, but in a class of vehicle size where usable space isn't going to be all that great to begin with, why make it worse by cutting off potential space because of the rear deck profile? And yes, the rear seat config in the HR-V is unique and innovative, but you can only do so much with the dimensions the sheet metal and glass give you.

The Renegade is going to be criticized by some for its styling, of course. But at least it makes reasonable use of the room that's available with its wheelbase, simply because it's an honest box on wheels. And in AWD, I absolutely didn't want a CVT--the available 1.4t/6 speed manual option for the Renegade is pretty unique for this class of vehicle and was an important factor in our choice.

Agreed. Not only does the swoopy design compromise space, but all the other crossover/small suv's start to look the same. And there is certainly no space for a spare if you want one in the HR-V.

Also Manual. That is all.

HR-V has 2 variants in China, Dongfeng Honda XR-V and Guangzhou Honda Vezel.

XR-V is the #3 best selling small SUV in China in the first half of 2016, while Vezel is #4. However they are too small.

Renegede is #34. Whatever.

I buy nothing Chinese I can avoid. I only buy products made in countries whose human rights and environmental standards meet my approval. I have many Chinese friends and I hear how the people are made to work long hours for low pay. Every time I go to buy something made in China I think about the poor workers being forced to work long hours making those things for me to buy so don't buy it.

The renegades that are being made in china are being sold in china, exclusively.

Due to the high import fees they ask permission to set up factory's there to make the price lower for the Chinese consumer.

I don't see the issue?
THIS IS ALL JUST PLAIN ECONOMICS 101
The issue started with Nixon when he set this up with china. This works great for china because you cannot sell product in china unless you take a Chinese company as a partner then that partner manufactures the product to be sold in china. The result for all you non rocket scientists that don't understand what buying Chinese means is that not only are US dollars going to china US technology is also going to china and we are teaching them how to use that technology so its no wonder they are now the world leader. WE GAVE IT ALL TO THEM and it needs to stop. Nixon was hailed a great man for opening the door to china when in fact he was simply transferring US technology and dollars to china a policy which continues to this day.
Now if you think that doesn't hurt you likely won't feel your dollars purchasing power from your paycheck get smaller and smaller until they reach the 2-300 dollars per month value of current Chinese worker paychecks. At that point you may realize you've been taken but it will be to late to do anything about it.

lmao with Chinese numbers you don't think they would have caught up by themselves? Yeah maybe it would have taken longer but for some reason do you think Americans are smarter or have extremely more advanced technology than them? China has actually been leading in technology for a while and a lot of the advances in our day to day tech that you probably don't even know.

Back to this job stuff, I'm an drafter in Canada so I'm afraid my pay cheque wont be getting smaller and smaller. And this vehicle BTW is NOT american made. its made it Italy. which means *spoiler alert* the money doesn't go from Italy to America it get put into workers salaries, and profits go to FCA who is Fiat Chrysler Automotives which as you probably don't know is a Italian-controlled Dutch multinational corporation.

also, american $$ are going to china because manufacturers in America use Chinese factory's to make their products. Does this money stay in China? Yes some of it. The cost to make the product. The Profits, go to the American company.

So if you wanted to buy American WHY did you choose FCA and the Renegade? A lot of FCA Factories are in the USA but the owners are Italian so the profits goes there. Similar to the American/ China relationship.

If china had not stopped is ballooning population growth in the sixties it would today still be at the bottom of the pile. You cannot create surplus funds when all your money goes into babies and subsistence living like it was back then. The day they limited births to one child and then only if pre approved by big brother was the day they started on the road to the top of the pile. Nixons deal was a shot in the arm for the Chinese because it required an American company if it wished to do business in china to take a Chinese company as partner and p[rovide that company with the technology and equipment to make product. Now this partner could do what ever it wished with the new technology there were no limitations but there was on the American partner. So at this point the worlds cutting edge technology which the USA at the time had most of was dropped in the lap on china hurtling them into the mainstream of the world. Get the picture? Now the next step for china was to keep wages in the toilet for Chinese workers so that Chinese companies could make lots of money and at the same time destroy the US economy by taking US jobs........Every time you buy Chinese when there are alternatives and I have most of the time found alternatives you are sending money, jobs, to china creating demand for product which keeps those poor people working 6 12hour days for 2-300 per week. I buy mostly USA but do buy from other countries with economic, human rights, environmental standards I approve of and I'm sorry to say china meets none of my minimum standards but Italy does. The real issue in the US is so few people actually understand international economics above a grade school level. China is not likely to ever be on my approved list nor is North Korea and a few others.....Its Chona that is the biggest source of income for North Korea and without that income the Nk's would not have funds for the nuclear weapons they are in the process of accumulating and testing. Sometimes I wonder if I am the only one that really cares. Our species is emulating lemming behavior knowingly making a mad dash for destruction.

Best wishes

Ugh. I could go on with this dud... the HR-V is pretty much a mirage. It looks like an suv/crossover and even has a lot of cargo volume but the powertrain could never pull the car plus the cargo. Probably the most underpowered vehicle I?ve driven and the stop and go vibrations alone would be enough for me to knock it off the list. The nine speed is a welcome change to a vibrating cvt.

Before everyone loses their shirt over Chinese manufacturing. The U.S. Renegade is assembled in Melfi, Italy and the HR-V is assembled in Celaya, Mexico. The Chinese manufactured models are for China and certain regions.
