Awesome! Thanks so much !!I found this post when searching for the answer to this question while camping at the beach last weekend. I set up my sleeping bag in the back with the back seats down and the cargo door open, but noticed the small lights in the cargo area were the only lights that never shut off. After trying everything I could think with the knobs and dials and instrument panel, I had another beer and figured out how to do this.
Open the cargo door. Look at the bottom of the door and find the latch in the center. Push on the "catch" in the middle - this is the part that moves when you push it - and push it as far as you can until it clicks in place and the lights turn off. Basically, you're just tricking the door into thinking that it has closed. You have to push it pretty far and it's kind of a tight space, so you might need to use a skinny tool if you have fat fingers
When you're ready to close the door, just press the hatch-open-button at the bottom of the cargo door to release the catch so it is ready to latch to the bottom of the cargo area for closing.
