Yea I think that is is weird that they nominate cars that haven't even come out yet, but by the time the shortlist is due all these vehicles will have been on the road for a bit.
It has not even had a review yet!!
Just a hint. If it has anything to do with anything that takes money for ads, or advertises itself, it's not really merit based.
not being biased but i can see the renegade being on a short list, i think it's that good!
There is a lot of great cars on the list though. Many of them are luxury cars.

I think that the i8, and the NX, and the Macan are all great competitors. It's hard to say when you don't really know the criteria. How can you compare all these cars fairly?
It's going to be a long wait to see the short list come the end of this year. Can't wait to see which cars make it to the list.

Just watch who buys the most advertising or surveys for whoever makes up the list. That will tell you what the short list will be.

Trade publication "best" lists are nothing but a means of selling more ads. It doesn't matter the industry.

So you think that cars have to kinda campaign for car awards like this? I am thinking of it in comparison to the Oscars. At the end of the day its politics, a popularity contest. You've got to get people to vote for you, and you do that through more than just creating a good product. You've got to sell it too.

i don't think it works like that

Maybe its not quite so simple, but I don't think that they are totally free of corruption. There was a big automotive award that even had public voting that was proven to be a big sham. I don't doubt that there is a some fishy stuff going on at least in part.
Nominating a car for "Car of the year" that has not yet reached the public is like nominating a newborn baby for President of the United States. :D
That is kinda how they choose the Dalai Lama and he turned out to me a pretty good guy.
