The entry-level Jeep Renegade is inching closer to production as our spies have caught the model undergoing cold weather testing in Northern Europe.
Snapped wearing a Fiat 500L body, the prototype has an extended wheelbase and a seven slot grille. We can also see an increased ride height which should ensure it can handle more than the mall parking lot.
Engine options remain unconfirmed but speculation suggests there will be a variety of Fiat-sourced options including a 0.9-liter TwinAir Turbo with 105 HP (74 kW), a 1.4-liter MultiAir Turbo with 160 HP (119 kW) and a 1.6-liter MultiJet II turbodiesel with 105 HP (74 kW).
The Renegade could be introduced at the Geneva Motor Show before going on sale this fall.

That isn't at all what the Renegade will look like though. The body is all Fiat based is it not? I think it is pretty up in the air as far as the public is concerned as to what the Renegade will actually look like. Do you think there is the 7-slat grille hiding under that camo?

the article clearly states it's a fiat 500 shell, all of that was mentioned in the article.

i know there's a while keep powertrain hiding under that fiat shell

The one thing I have not fully understood is why they are covering the front of the car.

its basically a Fiat 500L

What are they attempting to hide?
not everyone is going to know that, plus they might have some parts or something we can see that will be on the renegade if it wasn't covered. could even be some engine component, like some rad that belongs to an engine they currently sell, which would send automotive media crazy.

I personally think that if they just left the black tarp off the front and took the badges off that it would attract less attention.

People would just think its a Fiat 500L where someone stole the badge and the owner decided to fit oversized tires on the car hehe.

It would but sometimes I think they like to attract attention to it, especially knowning that how they covered it up, no one will get to see what they want
