i love my renegade, but I am concerned with it jerking really hard randomly seems like when changing gears (it’s a automatic) like if your coasting down a hill. I took it to the dealership yesterday & of course they said it didn’t do it when they test drive it, & they said the diagnostic test was fine so I don’t know what else to do, but it makes me feel unsafe

W E L C O M E ! ! ! to the forum.

Motor Mounts, I would get the motor mounts inspected. They have been known to fail on the 2016/2017 and older Renegades.

There are 3 of them, (don't worry, the engine and transmission won't fall out if the mounts fail) when they start to go bad they allow for slack between the chassis and the drive train which would cause the jerking that you are describing.

IDoMy0wnRacing is correct plus did they check the software? I bet it is one or the other.

I’m not sure wouldn’t software problems show in the diagnostic test?
No.

You would specifically have to ask if there is a software update which covers "Jerking" while ... what ever it is that you are doing when it jerks.
A dealership will not update any component, computer or module's software unless there is a specific update for the specific complaint.

IF the technician takes your Renegade for a test drive and CAN NOT DUPLICATE THE CUSTOMERS CONCERN, They won't look into it any further.

The best resource is to get them, the technician, to go for a ride with you, so that YOU can recreate the concern. This way the tech know what concern you are referring to.

... and then ask them to check the motor mounts.

Mine 2015 was jerking/lurching usually from a stop. Almost felt like I was being rear ended. I took it in for service and they found nothing "mechanically" wrong with it but did software updates. Not saying this is your problem but there was a bulletin describing this problem. Below is the line item from the work order so maybe something to look into. Best of luck.

"Scanned for DTC's none present, looked for available software updates and TSB's has TSB 21-003-18 lists his concern as fixable with software, PCM and TCM are both out of date, need to be done at same time 18-19-06-UE 0.2 hr 18-19-05GX 0.2 hr flash programmed PCM and TCM to latest software level per TSB 21-003-18"

I’m not sure it matters mine is a 2018, but when I take it back I’ll have them check it, thank you

Hi Ccraig859,
We're sorry to hear about your transmission concern. We do rely on our dealers to determine whether a vehicle is OAD, however, if you would like additional assistance throughout your next service visit, please send us a PM. We'd be happy to connect you with a Case Specialist to assist.

My wife said hers started jerking when was time for service oil change and then stopped after oil change was done. I suggested maybe went into a limp mode when came due. 2017 jeep limited
