I am losing my patience and I have 4,000 miles left on my warrenty of current car. I drive A LOT so I dont think the Renegade will be avail. in time. SOOOO, that being said I would love to hear opinions of what I should get!

Renegade is the SMALLEST car I would want. I have driven and looked at (all of these newest model):

Loaded VW Jetta (prob. is that I need to sit up higher)
Grand Cherokee
Mini Cooper Countryman (a little too small??)
Range Rover Evoque (LOVE it, but afraid I will have same issues as my BMW)
Audi SUV (too expensive)
Nissan Murano (never liked Nissan, but I like look of new murano)
Toyota RAV 4 (nice, but Zzzzz, Boring)!!

HELP? OPINIONS? My family is SO sick of hearing about my car-decisions, maybe someone here can give opinions or advice.

Thanks!!

Diane,

Take a look at the Buick Encore. We bought one for my wife back in July and I think it is one of the nicest small SUVs on the market now. If you want true 4x4 and skid plates for moderate offroad use, then it will not work for you. But if you want a smaller more economical and fairly luxurious SUV, I would highly recommend it!

Some of the nicer things about it:

Excellent driving position (nice and high feeling)
The interior is VERY nice.
They paid special attention to quieting (and even use a Bose noise cancelling system)
It's about as economical as the Renegade is supposedly going to be.
So far I am very impressed with the quality of the vehicle overall.
Oh and Buick is the only GM brand not being hit crazily by all the recalls.

Your car is not going to grenade at the end of its warrranty...but.....

I have to agree with SubVet. And DO NOT go with the Chevy equivalent. Waayy tooo cheap...

Take a serious look at a well-powered regular Cherokee. I just read a C&D article on how great the revised auto tranny reprogramming is.

And I agree on all your points. Maybe take a relook to the RAV4. I drove one today and it was nice and spritely, good maneuverability, but the seat track does not go far back enough for my 6'0 height. Still a well-sorted out small SUV.

Overall, though I'd look at Cherokee or grand cherokee. You've got some nice choices!

Check out the Patriot 4x4 with freedom drive 1. Its a little bigger than the Renegade and has a little more clearance. They changed out the cvt transmission with a 6 spd auto. It should be comparable to the Renegade, then in some time you could get a Renegade after they work out any early bugs.

The Evoque is awful. It's the Louis Vuitton handbag of cars.

The countryman has almost exclusively awful reviews, especially from long term tests where reliability is a concern.

The new Murano has gotten AMAZING reviews so that could be a good option.

It sounds like you want a borderline luxury SUV for a little cheaper than a real luxury SUV...

How about a VW Touareg? 85% of a Audi and much cheaper.
Or a Lincoln MKX? Luxury for a more reasonable price.
The Infiniti QX50 and the Acura's RDX sit at a pretty sweet price point for what they are.

I have looked at the Encore. Very nice ride, but significantly more than I want to pay for something that will carry my sea kayaks, backpacks. Also been looking at Rogue by Nissan. Crazy as it sounds--my biggest complaint about those is that they don't come in bright red. They are also AWD, and I'm pretty attached to my 4WD Liberty. I'm just a Jeep kinda girl!!!

So, you have looked at all the others??? Why not the regular cherokee??
We have waited a year for the new Renegade, but when we found out it would not do what WE wanted, we went, drove, and ordered a Cherokee Trailhawk. Your wants and needs will no doubt differ from ours.
It all depends on what you require the vehicle to do. Ours needs was a vehicle that was four wheel drive and towable with all wheels on the ground. We found what we needed in the Jeep Trailhawk with V-6. Your needs may vary from ours.

Trailmom,,, I, We, love the new Buick. Like you, it is not true 4 Wheel drive and for us, is not towable.

I am having the same problem. I want the Renegade. I can't stop talking about wanting the Renegade. But I can't make a real definite decision until it is in USA dealerships and I can give it a test drive. What is taking so long?

The other cars I have been looking at are the Honda CR-V and the Toyota Rav4. But I have had my 2003 Jeep Liberty for 11 years and as much as I love it, I can't keep repairing it.

Is your current car so unreliable that you're afraid to keep it a day past the warranty?

I lease cars for 48 months at a time... my warranty barely lasts me the first 2 years. It's not an issue.

I wonder how many people Jeep have stalled from buying a new (rival) car until Renegade arrives with this long drawn out process and if it has been deliberatly planned to do just that. Looking at other manufacturers reveals it seems like cars are uncovered at a show somewhere then six months later you can go to the dealers lot and take your pick.

I so agree with you, dpidg. "The grandmother's been on the roof" of my '98 Dodge Durango for some time now and we're coddling her along, hoping that she'll last until the Renegade emerges. She may not, though and I'm getting short of options. I DO NOT like "aerodynamic" compact SUVs - and now most of them copy one another. And I'm looking for gas mileage along with the 4WD. (We have a cabin in the middle of almost nowhere, and yes, I do use the 4WD in addition to the more usual suburban driving). And after driving this Durango for nearly 18 years, I'd like to have a NEW car for a change - and one that's at least somewhat fun - not suburban Mom mobile. Next best, I guess, is the Forester, but everyone and his/her brother has one around here and really, it's still not "square" enough for me. Oh well, I guess I'll just hope the Durango holds out.

If they are doing this deliberately they are now at the point where they are going to start losing customers as people are becoming frustrated and fed up
with the lack of information we are now in 2015 and still no solid information about pricing or release date...

This is all just a "sales strategy" on the part of Jeep. By not bringing out the Jeep for the forceeable future Jeep works to increase sales for Ford, GM, Toyota, Acura, etc, for just about every other manufacturer. And hey it works. People like you take your business and your money elsewhere while Jeep just wonders if it might be a good idea to advertise for this truck, to tell the world what it will cost and most importantly to actually sell it.

Jeep misses the boat. Go buy something elsewhere to send a solid message to Jeep, that the world is tired of waiting, that the world gives up on Jeep.

And once you have gotten something else then perhaps you should call them and let them know you bought something else. Perhaps they might care if they got 200 calls like that every day from irritated customers that bought elsewhere.

It will basically self-destruct at the end of the warrenty in 4,000 miles.

Yes, my current car is THAT bad. It has been **** for the 1.5 years I have owned it. It is a BMW X5, just so you know. Read below/bottom if interested!!

I don't like the front end/grill of the regular Cherokee, shallow I know. I prob am a bit shallow.

Like the Grand Cherokee a lot, don't think I need a car that big anymore

Like the 2012, Jeep Liberty. But gas mileage is terrible

I don't care for Subaru whatsoever, I have no reason why and I am embarrassed to admit that.

Belg: you are 100% accurate, thank you for the ideas. I will check those out Tomorrow!!

SacsTC: I don't need off-road, towing, or any business like that. I think my needs are different than yours, like you said. I want a car that is unique, great gas mileage, big enough to haul my kiddos, looks Hot, LOVE the Skyish-semi convertible top. Just a fun ride with some Awesome unique flair.

MY DREAM RENEGADE: Limited. Loaded. White exterior with all leather black interior. Chrome accents/trim throughout. Nav. Sky-Slider. Chrome wheels. Tiger engine. AHHHH, maybe I CAN wait. :(

My X5 is a serious piece of S#%*. I am 42 years old, this is my 5th BMW I have owned (that is ALL I have ever driven). Long story short... lawsuit with BMW of North America, for my current car, I have LOVED the other 4 Beemers that I owned. Needless to say, BMW makes a Beautiful car. Matters NONE....they have ZERO loyality for their "backbone customers", such as myself. Anyway, I love the looks of the Renegade,...if not that , then the Grand Cherokee Limited or other Beautiful vehicle with people that stand behind their product. Whatever I decide to purchase, you can bet money that it won't have the letters -BMW- on it. Feel free to convey the fact that BMW HAS ZERO CUSTOMER LOYALTY and I plan on relaying that message for at least as long as I have owned a BMW! OHHHHH! That's the Rest of My Life!! :/

Diane~
