They're probably close enough that when rounded to a whole number they ended up being the same.
You're probably right. Still, I am actually pleasantly surprised at the city mpg. And I'm glad there is a 4X4 with 31 mpg highway. Have to pay extra for premium gas so it's just a wash in terms of fuel costs with the automatic. But I sure hope it is even more fun to drive than the automatic.

It is better than my 2WD Manual Escape, but I can tow with the Escape.
You know, I'm glad you brought this up. This point seems unclear to me. I have read that you can't tow with the manual. But you can configure a 4X4 manual sport or latitude with the tow package. I think it's only the 4X2 that you cannot tow with. But again, it's not entirely clear to me.

If you have seen an authoritative voice from Jeep speak or write about this, I would like to see it. This is one issue I would really like some clarity on.

In Europe with 1.4 gasoline engine, but with around 25 - 30 HP less, and manual gearbox You can "magically" tow 1000 kg that are 2204 lbs, with the 2.4 liters engine 907 kg.

Don't forget that premium fuel and regular fuel have pretty much the same energy content. The 1.4 is designed to run on regular or premium. It won't pull much, if any, boost and spark on 87 in the cooler seasons.

In other words, unless you live in a very warm climate, you will probably see the same fuel economy with regular as with premium in the winter and probably even fall and spring.

You're opening up a can of worms here! There are lots of self appointed 'experts' on the forum, but I haven't heard of a single one that actually worked for Jeep in an engineering capacity and can say with any amount of authority why the 1.4L 4x2 isn't rated to tow in the states. Some people are towing with it (I plan to). I think as long as you're safe and don't go overboard, you're probably fine.

One thing I noticed looking at the window stickers of the manual, FWD 2016 Renegades vs the manual, FWD 2017 Renegades is that while they both boast 24 city and 31 highway, for some reason the combined mpg dropped from 27 (2016) to 26 (2017). Not sure what made that happen.
