Military rebate was denied by dealer

While I have retired from the military, one thing that annoys me is when those who serve/served demand a discount on goods and services. No business or person owes us financially (we do earn a pay check), although if they offer one, it is appreciated.

Still, it does disgust me when shady people try to take advantage of these discounts against those who they are offered to. Because it is a rebate, Jeep pays it, not the dealership. The website says active duty, retired, or veterans who separated within 6 months are eligible. The dealership told me only active duty and retired 100% disabled veterans. There is no reason for a dealership to do this (since the check comes from Jeep), other than if they planned to file for it later and not pass the money to the consumer. I am both retired and 100% disabled, so they gave it to me (injured on base here in Texas, not over seas).

Just wanted to see of anyone had different experiences. If anyone has been told differently, then I'm going to bring these concerns to the local military base and corporate Jeep offices. Thank you.

Still got $500 off...

I was medically retired. With EVERY place that offers a rebate discount it has ALWAYS been treated as retired. I was granted the rebate, and provided my DD-214. The documents were signed and I took delivery of the vehicle. I was called the next day and told I did not qualify for the rebate. The sales person wanted me to come resign the documents.

I had no legal responsibility to do so.

I contacted the Finance Manager and told him what they wanted to do (adjust the loan, or get an extra $500 from me). I told him the only place I could see the money coming from was the extended warranty.

I have worked at a dealership as a lot manager. I know dealerships look at the extended warranty as gold...

The finance manager did exactly what I expected. He dropped the purchase price of the vehicle, which dropped the cost of taxes. The total adjustment was $500. I voluntarily resigned the paperwork.

Nobody owes me anythiing. BUT, when you demand I come back and resign paperwork so that I can fix your mistake...

It'll cost you, not me.

I brought in a copy of my DD214, they photo copied it and I got my $500 on top of employee pricing for $2500 discount.

I don't "Demand" any discount, but when a business offers it, I take advantage of the savings. Corporations know what they can and can't afford to do and some how I have to believe there is a write-off in many cases.

Thank you both for the responses. Also, I don't mean to imply that most "demand" entitlement, just to state that there are many that do (I have to deal with them frequently at my job). Any rebate that they receive and don't pass on (when you've asked about it) is just as shady.

Wn7ant: Yes, they made the mistake, they should fix it. I just find it odd how both our dealership did this...especially since dd214 doesn't implicitly say medically retired. Most rebates are clear cut...If this, you get that. However, the manager said yes, you have to be retired. I said good, I am. I then presented him with the retired id card. He then said ok, but it has to be 100% disabled (back tracking to keep from offering it). I said that's fine, I could be right back with the paper work. He then questioned me on why I didn't look that disabled. Normally, I'm not offended by these questions (I understand public perception of a disabled veteran includes visible signs), but it made me angry because I realized they were going to file for it with Jeep and keep the money, without paying the rebate to me.

Retiredguns: I agree, and I'm glad that you did received it without issue. Seeing that you work there, I hope that they are honest with all consumer as well.

That 100% disabled is BS. Yeah, I have no arms and legs, blind & deaf, can't drive but I can have a discount.

I don't work for FCA, my Dad is retired. We get 6 control #s a year and 6 discount coupons for parts a year.
I'm not the one purchasing this, & I'm upset & NOT OK with it. I'd be raising a stink with the Dealership, Jeep Corporate & anyone else I could get a hold of. There is nothing wrong with demanding what has already been offered to you in writing.

Seems like the kind of thing that the dealer would have to uphold if you show them exactly what the offer says on the official Jeep website. I hope they aren't trying to take advantage of veterans because it really doesn't get much more despicable than that.

That they should, I doubt it would be a thing where it says "only at participating dealers" always seen it as a dealer-wide thing.
